Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, the Financial Analyst is responsible for maintaining, updating and communicating corporate department budgets and rolling corporate forecasts for management review; working closely with the Financial Planning & Analysis team and department heads to facilitate accurate consolidated budget and forecast updates. This role will include working with senior leadership on initiatives and assisting with providing the necessary financial insight to enable strategic business decisions
In this role you will:
- Prepare and manage rolling department budgets and consolidated forecasts (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
- Incorporate production budgets and forecasting into corporate forecast models.
- Liaise, communicate, and review monthly spend / budget / variance & reporting packages with department heads.
- Facilitate monthly financial reporting and forecast update meetings with executive team.
- Facilitate departmental budget and re-forecasts quarterly.
- Provide detailed variance analysis of financial results.
- Update short-term results and forecast into long-term forecast models.
- Act as liaison between Finance and Production Accounting departments.
- Support the VP, Finance, and Manager, FP&A on special projects as assigned, including accounting/financial analysis/budgeting.
- Draft financial analysis reports and executive summaries as needed.
- Prepare relevant scenario analysis to enable investment decisions and/or client acceptance decisions as needed.
- Other ad-hoc projects as needed to be determined by the VP, Finance and Manager, FP&A.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly skilled with Microsoft Office including intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, sumif, index, vlook-up, etc.).
- Experience both building and maintaining financial forecast models.
- Ability to analyze and interpret operational budgets.
- Efficient and detail-oriented.
- General accounting knowledge.
- Able to deliver work to deadlines and meet set performance objectives.
- Develops new initiatives and workflows to improve processes.
- Quick learner and self-starter with the ability to take on new tasks without having prior experience.
- Has a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Degree or Diploma with a focus on Accounting or Finance
- CPA of CFA Designation (an asset) or equivalent work experience
- 3-4 years post-graduate work experience.
- Relevant industry experience would be an asset.
- Experience with Intacct accounting system and/or financial modeling experience, are considered an asset.
