Job description

Position Summary/ Purpose:

The Food & Beverage Manager plays a key role in the overall Food & Beverage operations of all F&B offerings at Glen Arbour (including any Event Food & Beverage offering (banqueting)) through adoption of all relevant government regulations and any administrative or owner-driven policies and procedures. The F&B Manager’s role is to ensure quality, standards and customer satisfaction is delivered on a daily basis, to optimize the operations to provide profitability, employee satisfaction and create and maintain an organized internal operation in all locations of Food & Beverage.


As an effective manager, the F&B Manager is expected to lead by example and implement company-wide initiatives including teamwork and assistance to each other. The F&B Manager is expected to explain complex ideas in a way that their team can understand, actively listen to their team’s ideas and feedback and take necessary action. Strong organizational and communication skills are key to being successful in this role, both to help manage their own time and responsibilities but also to delegate appropriate tasks to team members.


Job Duties & Expectations

  • Lead the management/supervisory teams of all Food & Beverage locations.
  • Plan and direct the food and beverage operations ensuring the balance between delivering excellent customer service, maximizing profitability and supporting the development of all colleagues to their highest potential.
  • Show a strong floor presence and visibility.
  • Create and nurture an environment that emphasizes motivation, empowerment, teamwork and passion for providing service.
  • Continually demonstrate/model exceptional customer service standards and supports the F&B teams at all times through training and encouragement.
  • Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Work co-operatively across departments to achieve shared goals of customer satisfaction.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Monitor and maintains the productivity level of employees.
  • Maintain the operating budget and verifies that standards and legal obligations are followed.
  • Communicates areas of concern or that need attention to F&B Management staff and follows up to verify understanding.
  • Effectively monitors compliance of all F&B Policies, Standards and Procedures.
  • Assist in identifying ways and means to increase Food and Beverage revenues in all F&B areas.
  • Submit capital and operating purchase proposals to the General Manager for discussion.
  • Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports to Ownership Team/CFO
  • Assure the cleanliness and orderliness of all the F&B premises by all staff.
  • Oversee inventory management as performed by the F&B Management team including review and evaluation of the ordering and monthly inventory counts.
  • Be involved and attentive to special events through the consistent review of all Banquet Event Orders.
  • Work with Executive Chef to develop menus, wine lists, promotions, specifications and standards for all food and beverage operations.
  • Support and supervise an effective monthly workplace inspection program.
  • As required, oversee Pub Manager in interviewing job candidates, providing recommendations for hiring, terminations, promotions or any other status change of F&B employees.
  • Manage all pricing and revenue increase possibilities. Provide plans and projections to General Manager.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned, to meet business needs.

Qualifications, Skills and Education Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the hospitality industry, with an emphasis on food and beverage operations.
  • Previous experience managing people and budgets.
  • Diploma in Hospitality or Food Service Management, considered an asset.
  • Food Safety Manager Certified, Serve Right Manager Certified, up to date WHIMIS, First Aid and CPR training (or willingness to get this training on own).
  • In-depth knowledge of the food industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of related computer software, including restaurant management software.
  • Ability to adhere to budgets and meet financial targets.
  • Ability to forecast food and beverage needs.
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written provides information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, email or in person.
  • Strong abilities to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Adaptable and flexible.
