Blair Court Community House is a non-profit, multi service organization located directly in a subsidized housing community in South-East Ottawa. We are dedicated to supporting a vibrant and diverse community by offering a wide range of programs and services that address the social, educational and recreational needs and wants of the neighbourhood.
We are seeking a bilingual (English and French) Food Security Coordinator to develop, implement and manage all Food Security programs and services and to network with community resources and community partners. The Food Security Coordinatorwill assist with programs and services that build capacity surrounding service delivery, nutrition and partnerships to address the inequities in food access. The Food Security Coordinator will apply a community development/engagement framework to implement and evaluate initiatives that address food insecurity.
Key responsibilities:
Collaborate with staff to fine tune our new ‘Choice Model’ community food bank
Manage all aspects of the operation of the community food bank and Food Security programs and services
Order and shop for food
Provide intake services for new clients
Perform community outreach
Provide referrals and navigation of the social system
Maintain data base and complete statistics and reports
Recruit, train and supervise volunteers
Build and maintain connections and relationships with partner agencies and donors
Partner with community groups in the development of Food Security projects and programs
Create flyers and promotional material
Investigate and apply for funding and grants
Represents agency and promotes public relations
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
University Degree and/or College Diploma in Social Work, Community Development or equivalent
A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a social service setting particularly with racialized families who experience issues of poverty or face other societal barriers
Experience with program development and evaluation
Knowledge of, and or lived experience of the Black, Indigenous, People of Colour communities
Excellent knowledge of community resources
Excellent interpersonal communication, de-escalation skills and documentation abilities
Strong oral and written communication skills in French and English, other languages an asset
Certified or willing to obtain certification in Standard First-Aid/CPR
Solid computer proficiency in a wide range of applications and platforms required
Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 50lbs
Must have a G driver’s license and access to a vehicle
A vulnerable sector police reference check
Must be fully vaccinated against Covid 19 (subject to an Ontario Human Rights Code exemption)
Conditions of Employment:
This position requires you to work flexible hours, including one evening per week. The specific hours of work will be developed in collaboration with the successful candidate to ensure it aligns with programs and services requirements and work/life balance. Additional hours may be available at a later date dependent on funding.
An offer of employment will be conditional upon the receipt of the following:
- A vulnerable sector police reference check
- Verification of qualifications as noted above
- Verification of being fully vaccinated against Covid19 (subject to an Ontario Human Rights Code exemption)
- All applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada for the duration of their employment
