Surrey Urban Mission

Our guests often struggle with mental health, addictions, homelessness, and poverty. Surrey Urban Mission Society operates three shelters and a Community Meal Program in the Whalley area and cooks for over 200 people a day. Shelter Food Services Staff
Job description
We are looking for 2 people to join our Food Services team.
We have a position on Thursday cooking in our community kitchen.
We also have a position on Sunday-Monday working in our food donations attendant.
With proper experience this 2 positions could be available to 1 person. Both of these positions report to the Food Services Manager.
Our Cooks make healthy and delicious meals to serve those who otherwise do not have access to food. Our cooks are creative, love working as a team, are able to adapt their menus at a moments notice and are diligent at following all foodsafe procedures.
Our Food Donations Attendant is the one who receives the purchased and donated food, sorts it, records and puts it away in the food storeroom. They help create order lists and put together orders to send to our different kitchens. They also help keep the kitchen and food storehouse clean and organized. This person has administrative skills and is extremely organized.
Salary: $21.00 per hour
These positions begin ASAP
Responsibilities
· Assist in cooking meals for program guests and members of our community using the SUMS dining facility
· Work alongside the staff/volunteers and other members of the SUMS Team
· Cook food in a timely manner
· Monitor daily fridge and freezer temperatures
· Monitor food stock and place orders
· Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items
· Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area

· recieving, recording and storing donated food items
Requirements
· Proven work experience as a Chef or Cook
· Food Safe certification
· Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment
· Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks
· Excellent time management abilities
· Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes
· Familiarity with sanitation regulations
· First Aid certification is an asset
