Full Time Environmental Services Employee
Working under the direction of the Supervisor of Environmental Services, the Environmental Services Employee is responsible for maintaining the water distribution and waste water collection, utility locating, water meters, licenced supervision, sanitary and storm sewer maintenance and repair, and winter maintenance.
Responsibilities:
- Main break repairs. Service installation and repairs.
- Fire hydrant and valve operation and repairs.
- Flushing programs and maintaining chlorine residuals.
- Locating water mains, water services, street light cable, sanitary and storm manholes, and private clean outs.
- Installation of meters, fittings, wire and remotes.
- Repairs and replacement of meters, fittings, wire and remotes.
- Meter reading for billing.
- Oversee installation and commissioning of water mains.
- Oversee tapping and installation of private water service connections.
- Locating, flushing, camera and eeling of sanitary and storm sewers.
- Troubleshooting and reviewing customer complaints.
- Dealing with manholes and private cleanouts.
- Snow removal of sidewalks, parking lots and roads in relief of the Public Works Department.
- Other duties as assigned.
The requirements of the position include:
- Minimum Class 1 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certificates.
- Applicant must be able to qualify for an upgrade to Class 2 Water Distribution.
- Knowledgeable in the operation of computer software meter reading programs, GIS Interactive Mapping, and handheld GPS units.
- Class DZ driver’s licence.
- Over 4 years and including 5 years of experience.
- Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Completion.
- General knowledge of the regulations, backflow prevention programs, meter installation, and water and sewer infrastructures.
- Experience operating service trucks, power tools, and equipment, locate equipment, vac trailer, and any other required equipment.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an outdoor environment on a 40 hour work week with occasional exposure to chemical substances and regular exposure to heat, cold, and noise due to the climate, traffic, and equipment being used. Overtime is offered on a rotating equalization basis.
Rate of pay is in accordance with Schedule “A” of the Collective Agreement. Range from $31.88- $32.88 depending on licensing
