STRABAG is actively seeking a General Accountant for our Canadian division where he/she can utilize their knowledge to contribute to the continued success and growth of the organization. The successful candidate will work at the main office in Mississauga, Ontario.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the General Accountant will be responsible for general accounting functions, including processing journal entries, intercompany transactions, GL accounts reconciliation, fixed asset accounting, and other day-to-day accounting and finance operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, bank withdrawals to the financial system
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable in the accounting system, monitoring the aged accounts receivable balances
- Prepare payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements
- Process rent, credit card, employee expense transactions
- Reconcile general ledger accounts including prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, etc.
- Prepare fixed asset account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
- Provide financial information and reports to management by researching and analyzing accounting data
- Perform month-end accounting with minimum supervision
- Ensure accuracy of financial documents for payment, auditing and tax purposes
- Assist in the month-end, quarter-end, year-end closing process including audit requests and preparation of financial close working papers
- Assist with project and initiatives withing the corporate finance team
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- A post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
- 3+ years progressive experience in accounting
- Professional designation in accounting (or working towards) is an asset
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and regulations
- Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Power Point)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Experience working with MS Dynamics and AS400 is an asset
- Excellent communications skills, written and spoken
- Ability to manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent time management skills
- High attention to detail, a positive attitude, and tact
- Able to work well independently or as a team player
- Ability to deal with confidential issues in a professional manner
- Accounting experience in construction or a related industry preferred
- Knowledge of German is an asset
