Job Summary
As a Global Senior Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the physical and aesthetic aspects of our work environment. Your primary responsibility will be to create innovative, inclusive, functional, and inspiring spaces that enhance the wellbeing and productivity of our employees. This role requires a strategic thinker with technical knowledge, at the forefront of workplace trends, and the ability to translate organizational goals into a cohesive and high-performing workplace environment. In your role, you will lead the day-to-day operations and output of our Design Studio, reporting to the Global Director of Design, Delivery & Innovation. You will work closely with teams within Corporate Real Estate, engage with key stakeholders across Equinix, and interface with our external design partners to manage design direction, quality, and adherence to our standards. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and shape the workplace design direction across the entire Equinix portfolio.
This position is in North America and can be based at either one of our Hub locations; Dallas or Toronto; or requests to be fully remote within the region will also be considered. The role is for a Fixed Term Contract (FTC) employee, contracted for a 2-year period, with the potential to convert to a Full Time Employee afterwards (FTE).
Responsibilities
Collaborate with senior leadership to understand business objectives and translate them into a project scope, workplace vision, strategy, and design brief
Work as an integrated team with the Regional Programme Managers to ensure the correct level of stakeholder engagement, project programme alignment, and budget parameters
Be an ambassador for our workplace design vision and philosophy, educating stakeholders and employees on the bigger picture, the why behind what we do
Prepare pre-design discovery, research, and benchmarking to identify opportunities, constraints, and inform project scoping and design briefing
Participate in procurement processes for selecting professional services, vendors, and suppliers, including technical scoring, and attending interviews
Lead a team of designers and collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to execute the workplace design vision and project brief
Optimize space utilization through effective space planning and design solutions that support various work styles, collaboration, and flexibility
Incorporate sustainable design practices and innovative technologies into workplace design initiatives, continuously seeking out sustainably conscious solutions
Ensure our workplaces and design solutions promote diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility, fostering a sense of belonging without barriers or reservation
Stay current on workplace design trends, furniture, finishes, and innovations, bringing fresh ideas into each design project
Curate and specify materials, finishes, and furniture that align with the design concept, budget, and functionality requirements
Produce high-quality renderings, mood boards, and presentations to effectively communicate design concepts for strategic and explorative projects
Oversee and work with external design and project partners to deliver design deliverables from concept design through to technical construction documentation. Review and contribute to detailed design documentation, including construction drawings, specifications, and material schedules, maintaining quality, consistency, and accuracy
Prepare for internal design gateway reviews, incorporate feedback into design revisions, managing stakeholder expectations, and ensuring project alignment
Facilitate design coordination workshops to solve any design complications, value engineering, and identify additional solutions
Provide creative direction and guidance throughout the design process, ensuring high-quality and cohesive outcomes
Monitor project timelines and budgets, addressing any design-related issues that may arise during the construction phase, including snagging and remedial works
Collaborate with project and programme managers to identify and mitigate potential challenges during the design and construction phases
Prepare and oversee space plans to support moves and changes as part of business-as-usual projects and respond to design queries from regional teams.Represent a Centre of Excellence, supporting CRE colleagues globally on design subject matters, providing expertise and advice, including supporting materials
Participate in post-occupancy reviews and lessons learned, capturing any design-related opportunities, and providing performance feedback in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs)
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field
Proven experience (~10 years) in workplace design, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful projects
Leadership experience in managing design teams and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders
In-depth knowledge of workplace design principles, furniture systems, and space planning
Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey design concepts to diverse audiences
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards
Ability to work flexibly to accommodate regional time differences when required
Proficiency in design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite)
