Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Grade Control Technician. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.
Schedule will be 2 weeks on-site, 2 weeks off-site
Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist
Responsibilities:
- Be courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Work safely and respect the environment
- Ensure ore/waste contacts are correctly flagged and separation is carried out efficiently in the open pits
- Plan day to day haulage in the pit
- Work directly with mine supervisors and engineers to develop short term haulage plans
- Work directly with heavy equipment operators to carry out detailed excavation, separating ore from waste
- Collect and audit daily haulage data, compiling them in a timeline manner for haulage reports
- Audit blasthole sample collection and perform QAQC on assay data
- Stockpile planning and development
- Maintain communication with mine engineering and metallurgy to ensure that all relevant parameters are included in blast releases.
- Attend daily and weekly meetings to provide input into short-range planning
- Waste management and reporting
- Stay current and comply with mining laws and company safety procedures
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent
- A minimum of three (3) years Grade Control/geology experience, preferably in an open pit mining environment
- Post-secondary education in Earth Science is preferred but not required
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel including creating custom formulas and developing new spreadsheets as needed as well as proficiency in other MS Office Suite products
- Experience with mining software such as MineSight, Vulcan or an equivalent
- Must have a valid drivers’ license
- Have excellent record keeping skills
- Able to work outdoors in an arctic conditions (cold temperature, high winds, heavy snow) Able to walk on rocky slopes on uneven ground; occasional squatting, kneeling, climbing, siting and reaching above the shoulders is required
- Color vision for distinguishing flagging indicator colors, map creation for operators, and giving directions to operators based on color changes in the dig face
- Proficiency with database and geology software, such as SQL, acQuire or Leapfrog, would be an asset
- Strong interpersonal communication, written and verbal skills
- Able to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
