Job Summary
Galore Creek Mining Corporation is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinatorto support field operations at the Galore Creek Project in northwest British Columbia. Reporting to the Health & Safety Lead, this role is primarily responsible for supporting all field operation activities with all health and/or safety aspects in accordance with GCMC policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. This role is to be a safety champion promoting GCMC's core value of a safety-focused culture based on courageous safety leadership.
Overview
Galore Creek Mining Corp currently operates two camps on the project site. One road accessible camp (~96 person capacity) and one helicopter supported camp (~131 person capacity). Start date for this role is anticipated to be May 2024, and end date is anticipated to be October 2024.
This po sition will be based at the Galore Creek project site on a rotational basis.
Located in the territory of the Tahltan Nation in northwestern British Columbia, Galore Creek is one of the world's largest undeveloped copper-gold-silver deposits. Galore Creek Mining Corporation (GCMC), a partnership between Newmont Corporation (Newmont) and Teck Resources Limited (Teck), is committed to advancing the asset towards a development decision with meaningful input from the Tahltan Nation and BC regulators. Responsibilities
  • Be a Courageous Safety Leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture on the common values of health, safety, environment, and social responsibility shared by Teck and Newmont (the Partners).
  • Understand, embrace, and champion GCMC's Courageous Safety Leadership culture. Make courageous decisions to stop or defer work if health and safety conditions are deemed unsatisfactory.
  • Provide Health & Safety support to all departments, in the planning and coordination of all activities on site. This includes, but is not limited to, hazard assessments, inspections, and training requirements.
  • Review all incident notification reports (reported by Site Supervision through our online safety software) for quality and appropriate follow-up. Lead full incident investigations as required.
  • Ensure all personnel on Site receive an appropriate health and safety orientation; either through our online training platform or by conducting them in-person on Site.
  • Maintain a balance between presence in the field and office responsibilities, recognizing the vital significance of both environments in ensuring a successful health and safety program.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance health and safety protocols, leveraging data-driven insights, and industry best practices to elevate site safety standards.
  • Work with all Department Leads to identify, pursue, and deliver continuous improvement opportunities as they pertain to Health & Safety matters.
  • Other duties as required by the Health & Safety Lead and Mine Manager or Designate.

Qualifications
  • A technical university degree or diploma (ex. Bachelor of Science) is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter, with the ability to work under minimal supervision and able to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong computer skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and SharePoint is required.
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to complete work in a timely manner is required.
  • Previous experience working in mining, mineral exploration, helicopter supported environments, and/or with heavy mobile equipment is an asset.
  • Previous experience conducting and leading thorough incident investigations, with a focus on determining contributing factors that lead to the incident, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Previous experience in health and safety is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a remote camp setting is an asset.
  • Previous experience using online safety software such as DATS (Digital Action Tracking System) or similar is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work in remote terrain, uneven surfaces, and all-weather conditions.
  • Hold a valid non-restricted Class 5 driver's license.
  • WHMIS certification is an asset.

Pay Range (annualized salary) : $90,000 - $115,000
Pay Range (day rate equivalent) : $450 - $600
