We are seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to work in our Langley office. This position will include site visits within the Lower Mainland.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer and enforce HFDI's Health and Safety Management System.
- Monitor the organization's compliance with H&S policies and legislative requirements.
- Advise management and employees on safety related items.
- Assist with identifying workplace hazard, and ensure workers have safe operating procedures.
- Assist supervisors with incident investigations; review and apply corrective actions.
- Conduct safety orientations and ensure that employees receive proper training.
- Schedule employee testing, including drug and alcohol screenings, hearing tests, etc.
- Ensure that employees have proper and up-to-date safety certifications.
- Perform regular reviews of documentation received from job sites and address deficiencies to prepare company for annual COR audit.
- Arrange in-house and external training courses.
- Create and update procedures and policies (SOPs, SJPs, H&S Manual, etc.).
- Perform internal audits and oversee external audits for COR compliance.
- Prepare and maintain all appropriate registers and statistics pertaining to H&S.
- Order safety supplies, monitor inventory and expenses.
- Complete and submit documentation and reporting as mandated by regulations.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
- Occupational Health and Safety Degree.
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Certification.
- Experience in the construction industry in British Columbia.
- CRSP designation (an asset).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Several years of experience working in a similar role for a construction company.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of H&S legislation.
- Knowledge of inspections and investigations processes.
- Superior writing skills and ability to develop and review required documentation.
- Ability to build and maintain good relationships with employees and third parties.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to respond and act effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
