ABOUT IHE OPERATOR SCHOOL

Are you a mentor who has mastered the craft of operating machines, and would like to share your experience and knowledge to future operators? Our HEO Instructors work in an industrial learning site environment where they instruct HEO operations and theory, directly creating a critical career experience to develop potential students and prepare them for an HEO career. Delivering high-quality instruction and ensuring successful student learning are key components for this role.

Interior Heavy Equipment Operator School proudly operates Heavy Equipment training sites throughout western Canada. What sets IHE apart is students never share equipment and always train on full-size machines only – NO Simulators. The company prides itself on delivering high-caliber real-world machine training so graduates leave with the skills and confidence needed to get a job in an exciting career. POSITION SCOPE: This role is vital in ensuring all operations and activities occurring on-site meet the IHE high quality standard of training, safety, and commitment to setting professional standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver the highest level of industry professionalism, customer service, and instruction to our students, funders, partners, and contractors.
  • Instruct students using creative, effective, and proven techniques and communication styles to meet the needs of our diverse student body in both classroom and field training.
  • Always ensure the highest set of safety standards are met and enforced in accordance with provincial law and industry expectation.
  • Represent IHE, the Company, with a high level of confidence, care, and professionalism.
  • Provide calm, clear, and inclusive mentorship to students and coworkers on-site.
  • Open and/or close site using IHE site security processes in full as designated by the Site Superintendent.
  • Prepare and lead daily high-quality toolbox meetings in rotation with co-instructors. These meetings cover a range of topics from safety thru conduct.
  • Report any and all site visitors by company executives, recruiting agencies, funding agencies, contractors, or other various visitors to the On-Site Administrator and Site Superintendent.
  • Ensure all site and student policies are communicated, understood, and adhered to.
  • Report any environmental or safety near misses and/or incidents immediately to the Site Superintendent and complete any required paperwork as designated.
  • Assist in ensuring site face is maintained to an acceptable level of cleanliness and organization.'
  • Daily and weekly marking of student work - both written and practical. Ensure student evaluation are complete to the IHE standard of training.
  • Always maintain visibility of students in your training care. Ensure radio contact.
  • Maintain Level One First Aid knowledge and administer first aid when and where required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience that includes training others on complex tasks.
  • Passion for teaching/mentoring the next generation of Heavy Equipment Operators for our industry.
  • 10 years of diverse HEO experience: in a minimum of 4 of these sectors:Forestry, Industrial, Civil, Mining, Environmental Services, Oil & Gas, and/or Demolition.
  • 10 years of diverse HEO machine experience: on a minimum of 5 out of these 6 machines: Excavator, Dozer, Grader, Loader, Articulated Rock Truck, Rubber Tire Backhoe.
  • Level 1 First Aid
  • Level 2 Ground Disturbance (for Supervisors)
  • Clear communication both written and verbally, including active listening skills.
  • Professionalism in conduct and demeanor.
