Job Title:            Housekeeping Supervisor

Location:                  Vancouver

Reporting to:           Manager, Food Services & Housekeeping and Director, Volunteer & Support

Job status:               Full-time 1.0 FTE (75 hours bi-weekly)

Compensation:       Grid level 25, HEABC’s Facility Subsector Wage Grid

JOB SUMMARY

The Housekeeping Supervisor is accountable for ensuring that the overall cleanliness and standards of Infection and Prevention Control (IPAC) of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice (CPCH) are maintained. This includes supervising staff, planning cleaning schedules; identifying internal housekeeping maintenance requirements and assisting with arrangements for repairs. The Housekeeping Supervisor assists with staff scheduling to ensure adequate staffing is in place at all times.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES, SUPERVISION AND COORDINATION:

  • Schedule and coordinate work assignments for designated staff.
  • Determine training and orientation requirements for team members.
  • Provide input into employee performance evaluations in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records and reports related to staff supervision.
  • Address work-related issues within the team.
  • Report unresolved issues or concerns to the Manager for further action.
    • Advise the Manager regarding ongoing deficiencies in systems, programs, services, and resources for the designated area.
    • Supervises, trains, schedules, orders supplies, and evaluates housekeeping staff at Vancouver hospice location.

LIASION & COLLABORATION:

  • Act as a liaison with other departments to foster collaboration.
  • Participate in departmental and team meetings.
  • Contribute to committees as required to enhance overall organizational effectiveness.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Keep the Manager informed of any critical issues or developments within the team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure effective communication channels are established and maintained.
  • This role requires a proactive individual with excellent leadership and communication skills. The ideal candidate should be able to address challenges, foster teamwork, and contribute to the overall success of the organization.

INFECTION PREVENTION & CONTROL:

  • This role is responsible for IPAC policy and procedure implementation.
  • Attends as active member of Occupational Health & Safety Committee.

GENERAL:

  • Works alongside staff, volunteers, to support families who are on the CPCH program.
  • Provides direction and orientation to all housekeeping staff regarding infection control standards through the CPCH housekeeping manual and checklists.
  • Under the guidance of the Housekeeping Manager, ensures all housekeeping staff have appropriate training related to WHMIS and licensing requirements, and ensures that staff works within the related requirements.
  • Evaluates the need for housekeeping cleaning maintenance tasks (carpets, floors and furniture); schedules staff, & volunteers. Collaborates with facilities team as required.
  • Supervises daily housekeeping activities including cleaning and laundry; works collaboratively with staff to meet infection control standards and tracks daily workload for key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Has input in hiring staff with the Manager, Housekeeping & Food Services.
  • Ensures housekeeping volunteers are provided with direction, support and an overall positive experience. Provides feedback to Volunteer & Support services as appropriate.
  • Creates and maintains a cohesive and collaborative team environment within housekeeping and CPCH & is a liaison between staff and management.
  • Recommends replacement or repair of furniture, drapes, linens, equipment, etc. and arranges for repair, as necessary under the direction of the Housekeeping manager.
  • Maintains inventory levels for linens, laundry and housekeeping supplies, paper products, toiletries; orders supplies and ensures delivery of toiletries and cleaning products, as required.
  • Assists housekeeping manager to assess new laundry or housekeeping products and makes purchases, to maintain appropriate levels of supplies.
  • Ensures housekeeping resources are utilized in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Attends Interdisciplinary Rounds, and other hospice committees, as required.
  • Provides input to housekeeping manager to develop strategy to ensure expenditures are within the approved budget.
  • Assists, supervises, schedules and oversees staff and contractors for facility projects and needs, such as “Staff Day” where annual cleaning/maintenance tasks are carried out.
  • Assists, supervises Holiday Décor teams i.e. Halloween, Christmas, Easter etc.
  • Does walkthroughs regularly with Housekeeping Manager to ensure standards are being adhered to.
  • Assumes other related responsibilities, as assigned.  

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented with a minimum of four years related housekeeping experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Clear and valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required.
  • WHMIS certification is required.
    • Related experience in a health care facility is preferred.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

What you bring to the role:

  • Housekeeping supervisory experience, including staff training, staff scheduling, and problem solving.
  • Knowledge and use of cleaning equipment and solutions.
  • Knowledge of healthcare cleaning procedures, including isolation procedures.
  • Knowledge of laundry procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work with children and families in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work as an individual and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical ability to carry out duties of the position

Note: Flexibility is necessary, as this position may require occasional weekend and evening work and travel within and outside the Lower Mainland.
