Position Summary:
The Housing Support Worker (HSW) is responsible for ongoing relationships with tenants including the rental application intake process, lease renewal, tenant relations and/or support, and explanation of all policies, procedures, and programs.
This position is seen as the primary link between the tenant and the health and social envelope. The HSW will act at times as a case manager to tenants who are identified as having difficulty in payments, and/or identify and provide referral for tenants requiring social/health programming.
Reporting:
This position will report to the Director of Housing and BPM.
Summary of Main Responsibilities:
Act as Case Manager:
o Receive client referrals and process client intake regarding tenant and homeownership issues – lease violation, rental arrears, emergency repairs
o Provide support, referral to partners, and resources when it comes to mental health concerns such as hoarding, violence, addiction, etc.;
o Develop individual work plans with clients
o Work with the Client, and in collaboration with other Housing and Band Property team members to address the work plan and help promote and maintain a constructive relationship between the Housing Office and the client.

Client Support:
o Provide support, education and practical assistance to clients who are homeless or at-risk of homeless with the aim at preventing the cycle of homeless.
Tenant Relations
o Execute annual lease renewals and administrative follow up.
o Referral for external and internal Health and social service providers
Requirements:
Community college Diploma from a discipline within the social services envelope
First Nation Housing Professional designation, or willingness to obtain.
Minimum one years’ relevant experience; or
A combination of Education, Experience and Training may be considered
Experience in a First Nations setting preferred
Must provide a clear CPIC and VSC (documentation will be required if successful applicant)
First Aid and CPR an asset (and must be willing to take the training if hired)
Valid Driver’s License and vehicle
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with computer programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, email and internet
Housing or property management experience, an asset
Good knowledge of provincial legislation and policies that affect Native Housing
Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team
Well developed interpersonal, public relations and relationship building skills
Excellent organizational, time and file management skills
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Knowledge of Mohawk history, government, culture and language would be an asset
