Position overview

Working closely but independently and remotely with the Director of Human Resources, this role will provide support to management and employees for end to end HR related matters. With a key focus on payroll, recruitment and retention, policy and benefit plan administration and ensuring compliance and best practices are adhered to throughout the organization. It is essential the individual is able to communicate professionally and effectively throughout all levels of the organization to a multi-cultural diverse team. Strong time management and exceptional interpersonal skills are a must with a thorough understanding of employment law and HR best practices.

Key responsibilities

Recruitment & Retention:

  • Conduct full recruitment cycle including, job descriptions, interviews, employment letters, reference and background checks, on-boarding, and health and safety orientation.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with employment agencies to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidates for temp positions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate disciplinary processes and next steps.
  • Maintain employee and department records.
  • Coordinate probationary performance appraisal process.
  • Administer employee termination and severance letters. Conduct exit interviews.

Payroll & Benefits:

  • Responsible for managing company payroll as per the set pay periods.
  • Process ROEs as required.
  • Administration of Company group benefit plan, enrollments, terminations and plan updates.
  • Resolve claim coverage issues as well as administer LTD and WSIB claims (as required);

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure HR compliance of the Quality Management System (ISO) are adhered to.
  • Member of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee, ensuring safety standards and regulations are adhered to.
  • Ensure monthly inspections and meetings are conducted as required.

General:

  • Support Director of Human Resources with facilitating departmental initiatives
  • Responsible for development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Provide high-quality advice and guidance to management on daily employee relations and performance management issues while maintaining confidentiality;
  • Ensures compliance with Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and Workplace Safety & Insurance Act are adhered to.
  • Provide support to employees as required for all HR related matters.
  • Advise and support management on corporate policies and procedures as well as employment standards and best practices
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives to create engaging, collaborative work environment.

Skills & Requirements

  • Must be bilingual. Fluent in French and English.
  • Degree in Human Resources.
  • Minimum 5 years Human Resources Generalist experience, including payroll and benefits.
  • Able to work 100% from office.
  • Deep understanding of Employment Laws.
  • Strong, progressive recruiting skills and experience.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office (strong Excel user) and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to exhibit discretion in handling confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface at all levels within the organization.
  • Manufacturing industry experience would be an asset.
