Position Title:International Development Project Lead

Status: FT Admin contract / 1 Year

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Department: International Centre - International Development Institute

Campus/Location: Hybrid / North Campus

Payband/Salary: ADM 05 (min) $84,800- (mid) $106,001

 

What you will do:

The International Development Institute (IDI) at Humber College is a Centre of Excellence focused on creating equitable, transformational change in the global education and employment sector. Drawing on the skills and expertise of staff, faculty and students, IDI manages and implements high-quality capacity-building and Development Projects in technology, education, health, business, social services, and emerging sectors. IDI manages a large portfolio of projects located across Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific and South America. IDI’s projects are implemented in collaboration with government agencies, educational institutions, multilateral and bilateral donors, non-governmental organizations and civil society, and the private sector. This vacancy is for the Program Lead of the Bhutan Education and Skills Training (BEST) project. The Bhutan Education and Skills Training (BEST) project is a five-year (2022-2027) initiative focused on enhancing the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system in Bhutan. Led by Humber College, BEST aims to develop and deliver high-quality TVET education with industry-relevant skills and competencies and successfully transition TVET graduates to the labour market through employment or entrepreneurship opportunities. 

 

The responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

  • Manage the implementation of the BEST project and all related activities.  
  • Collaborate with different departments and teams within Humber College in areas such as the academic division, finance, human resources, procurement, and technical teams to ensure smooth project execution. 
  • Close engagement with the local team in Bhutan and oversight of all field activities including recruitment of field staff.  Available for meetings outside Canadian working hours to account for the time difference. 
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Global Affairs Canada and the Project Team Lead for reporting and project updates, and travel to the region.   
  • Responsible for all SME travel between Bhutan and Canada. Travel to the project site at least once a year for up to three weeks for monitoring purposes.   
  • Allocate project resources effectively. This includes managing budgets, assigning personnel, and coordinating equipment or materials needed for project tasks. 
  • Identify and mitigate risks such as assessing potential risks, develop contingency plans, and ensure that risk factors are considered during decision-making. 
  • Maintain quality standards throughout the project lifecycle. This includes overseeing quality control processes, conduct inspections, and addressing any deviations from quality requirements. 
  • Facilitate regular meetings, co-chairs the PMU, provides updates, and ensures that information flows smoothly between team members, stakeholders, and partners. 
  • Motivate all project teams, resolves conflicts, and fosters a positive work environment, inspiring a commitment to project goals. 
  • Lead the preparation and revision of various project documents including narrative reports, workplans, requests for proposals, terms of reference. 
  • Coordinate outreach activities such as community engagement, social media and promotions related to the project. 
  • Support the Director IDI with business development in the region, identifying funding opportunities and partners and developing project proposals. 
 
Qualifications
 

What you bring to the role:

Education

  • Specialized undergraduate degree in International Development, or a related field
  • Training in the project cycle management of International Development opportunities

Experience & Skills 

  • Experience with International Development in a post secondary environment to support in developing and maintaining excellent relationships with internal and external clients, including Humber staff, faculty members, and international partners
  • Experience in International Development Project management to generate project and training leads for business development
  • Experience working with students and community partners to plan and organize events locally
  • Knowledge of ID financial reporting requirements to manage the financials of projects and liaison with central finance
