Job Title: Heavy Equipment TechnicianHydrovac Experience

Job Requirements:

This person, a Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician, will bring knowledge and experience of hydrovac units and related equipment and a done-right-the-first-time approach to their work. With attention to detail, to prescribed procedures, and to the safety of the workplace, they contribute to efficient and consistent processes that create value for the customer and the Company.

Relationships:

Reports to: Operations Manager – Service and Parts, Service Manager

Supervises: None

Internal Contacts: Service Managers, Parts Personnel

External Contacts: Customers, external parts providers

Key Responsibility Areas:

Hydrovac Service:

· Focuses on Hydrovac units of all kinds, including warranty service.

· Diagnoses and repairs issues relating to customer units, including both hydrovac and truck issues.

· Provides regular service, maintenance and reconditioning of hydrovac units.

Other Service:

· Works on all manner of other heavy vehicles as time permits.

· Services shop equipment including forklifts, skid steers and vehicles.

· Performs CVIP on all makes and models including trailers, in accordance with Alberta Transport & Transport Canada.

Testing:

· Performs testing on new builds and testing on repaired systems as required.

Administrative Functions:

· Tracks time and parts related to service jobs.

· Writes notes on service issues, trends, themes and recurring failures.

Projects / Other Assignments:

· Works on related projects or initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

· Current certification as a Red Seal Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician is a requirement of this position.

· CVIP certification is required.

· A class 3 license with Q endorsement would be considered an asset but is not required.

Experience:

· Must have significant experience working on hydrovac equipment.

· Five years of progressive service experience is preferred.

· Work in a dealership or other customer-driven service environment is preferred.

· A full working knowledge of Hydrovac Truck operation and systems is required.

Tools:

· A full set of heavy-duty mechanic’s tools is required.

Working Conditions:

· An industrial service shop presents a number of potential hazards. Consistent use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is required in this position.

· Employee will supply their own CSA-approved safety footwear; all other PPE is provided.

· The work requires an ability to lift heavy objects, and to work in a variety of positions (standing, kneeling, crouching and underneath vehicles) for long periods of time.
