The Junior Estimator will report to the Lead Estimator or Estimation Director and will be working with the broader estimating team in preparing and coordinating quantity take-offs, pricing and bid submissions. The Jr. Estimator will be responsible for preparing tender packages and getting a thorough understanding of Diligent Construction tendering procedures.
Junior Estimator Duties and Responsibilities Summary:
1. Explore Bids’ opportunities on various platforms and using contacts as applicable. These Bids are to be discussed with Management if to be pursued. This is in conjunction with the Lead Estimator.
2. Assist and coordinate the preparation of full cost estimates for a variety of projects.
3. In preparation of full cost estimates, will interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings to define scope/contents of the estimates.
4. One of the basic responsibilities of the estimator is to assist review/analyze bid packages from subcontractors/suppliers.
5. Assists in negotiations and contract clarifications with consultants, clients, venders, and subcontractors…
6. Responsible for maintaining working files as supporting documentation for estimating figures including current, accurate information on prices from venders through exclusive contact, pre-existing price lists, etc.
7. Assist senior estimators and support staff on an ongoing basis.
8. Keep all Bids related logs updated.
- Follow up on Bid Awards.
10. Other miscellaneous items related to the roles & responsibilities as directed by the Lead Estimator.
11. Coordinate all of these responsibilities with the Lead Estimator or the Estimation Director.
Junior Estimator Primary Skills and Qualifications:
- Familiar with estimating software, including MS Office, MS Project, Bluebeam/Adobe, others.
- Basic knowledge of relevant technical and non-technical construction documents, including the various forms of contract and tender procedures.
- Outstanding research and proposal writing skills.
- Ability to negotiate with suppliers and trades.
- Initiative, reliable, conscientious, and well-spoken.
- Degree in a construction related discipline is an asset.
