We are looking for a Full-Time Junior Health & Safety Assistant to focus on developing and implementing Health & safety strategies. Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Guide, advise and promote proactive hazard awareness and recognition to reduce incidents in the workplace; assist with root cause analysis within incident investigations as required.
- Provide advice and guidance to production and support departments in matters of Health & safety based on applicable laws, regulations and codes.
- Prepare and deliver health and safety training as required to employees, contractors and visitors.
- Collect and enter Hazard IDs including near misses and observed risks
- Facilitate and chair Health & safety meetings, including communicating actions and posting minutes on safety boards.
- Inspect and maintain H&S and emergency response tools, equipment, supplies, and communication boards
- Support medical first responders and first aiders and oversee inspection and stocking of first aid supplies, kits and rooms
- Conduct documented risk assessments of workplace processes to identify hazards and develop sound strategies to control identified hazards.
- Liaise with human resources, benefits coordinators, insurers, health care providers, and applicable managers and supervisors to help facilitate early and safe RTW
- Keep current on relevant health and safety trends; continually develop industry knowledge by participating in key industry events and conferences, reading trade journals, and participating in training programs as appropriate.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly statistical reports and in the maintenance of H&S data
- Conduct monthly health and safety meetings with each brand on a monthly basis
Position Requirements:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent with at least 1 year of related experience in occupational health and safety.
- Accredited Health and Safety Certification or Canadian Registered Safety Professional Certification (CRSP) is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety regulations, codes, standards, and best practices.
- Must have a desire to make positive changes and improvements and possess strong analytical skills.
- Trained and experienced with WHMIS, first aid and CPR or willing to acquire.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handle stressful situations in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience using physical demands analysis and ergonomic assessment tools required and vocational knowledge is an asset
- Must possess exceptional communication skills, including ability to listen and gather information effectively, present to groups, and create clear and concise written reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the company.
- Strong working knowledge of all required MS Office software.
- Must possess a valid driver's license (will be required to provide a clean driver’s abstract)
