Job description

When you join our team as a Kiln & Quality Control Supervisor, you will be responsible for duties within the rough yard including supervising the kiln production team and overseeing kiln operations, overseeing lumber storage and transfer, Quality Control, production coordination, shipping and any other duties as required.

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor kiln performance.
  • Lead a safe working environment.
  • Train employees in safe equipment operation.
  • Work closely with sawmill and planer production staff to maximize return to log.
  • Report on kiln targets (Accepts) and weekly production and quality achievements.
  • Research and implement new improved drying methods and lumber handling to improve grade recovery and costs.
  • Monitor moisture and Grade Outturn at the planer and work closely with the planer team on performance and quality.
  • Other QC duties as required.
  • Oversee byproducts and truck and proper fuel-mixture for the energy plant.
  • Ensure yard cleanliness and effective lumber storage.
  • Liaise with the sales group to ensure product alignment.
  • Lead the continuous improvement process while engaging and developing employees.
  • Assist in maintenance prioritization and planning activities.
  • Manage departmental forecasts, budgets and spending.
  • Manage and identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce cost, and maximize the quality, value, and recovery of lumber produced.
  • Engage and support team members to achieve excellence in all areas of the business.
  • Work closely with other departments (sawmill, maintenance etc).

What You Offer

  • Post-secondary education (minimum high school diploma).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably at a sawmill.
  • Knowledge and experience within lumber manufacturing and sawmill operations
  • Lumber grading ticket and familiarization with optimization is an asset.
  • Understanding and using statistical analysis process.
  • Kiln, shipping, or lumber Quality Control experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Proven leadership abilities and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Detail and results oriented.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Very proficient computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.

Interfor has posted the following expected salary range that the company believes in good faith could be offered to successful candidates. The salary offered is benchmarked to current market conditions and will also be based on numerous factors which can include work experience, skills, credentials, education, and other relevant factors. In addition to a competitive salary, you will receive a competitive benefits package and be able to participate in our Short-Term Incentive Bonus plan, with the payout amount subject to individual and corporate performance. Expected range: $83,700 – $100,000 per year
