Reporting to the Cook Supervisor, the Kitchen Aide enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients through his/her assumed responsibility in assisting with food preparation and food service delivery and in maintaining the required food hygiene and other health and safety standards within the Food Services department of Good Shepherd Ministries.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries.
- To provide service in a dignified, respectful and hospitable manner that reflects the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries and which integrates non-discrimination/anti-oppression/anti-racism frameworks.
- To observe all health and safety rules and regulations and to work in a manner that minimizes risk to yourself, clients, co-workers and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd Ministries. To perform your job responsibilities in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- To comply with the established rules of operation, procedures, policies and code of conduct.
- To comply with work scheduling and attendance requirements according to policy and practices.
- To respond to clients, co-workers, visitors and volunteers in a professional, respectful and hospitable manner.
- To participate in the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule in the Food Services department as assigned.
- To clean, maintain, through routine daily checks, and correctly store, all food service equipment, utensils and supplies as assigned.
- To assist with the delivery, routine checks and correct storage of incoming food, food service equipment and supplies and food donations as assigned.
- To dispose of kitchen food waste, garbage and recyclables to designated areas as assigned.
- To dismantle cardboard boxes for disposal and removal.
- To assist with the preparation of the daily menu and food service items to the required standard as assigned.
- To assist in serving meals and snacks as assigned.
- To carry out the prescribed ‘close down’ routine at the end of each shift.
- To ensure that the Health and Safety standards are maintained at all times. Care must be taken when using machinery and knives. It is forbidden to use equipment without first receiving instruction. It is forbidden to use faulty equipment; this must be reported to the Manager, Hospitality Services.
- To ensure the 'Personal Hygiene' policy is maintained at all times.
- To assist with the security of Food Services stock and equipment.
- To maintain the confidentiality and ethical standards of Good Shepherd Ministries at all times.
- To perform any other tasks as required or as assigned from time to time by the Cook Supervisor, or designate.
Skill, Nature and Scope
- Actively practices the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries.
- An ability to appreciate the complexity and demands of ‘hard to serve’ individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working in a restaurant or kitchen setting
- Food Handler Safety Certificate is an asset (training will be provided).
- Ability to use common kitchen equipment and appliances safely
- Able to lift items
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills to maintain teamwork with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Eligible to work in Canada
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $19.62-$20.35 per hour
