The Laundry Aide reports directly to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for assisting to ensure that laundry services are in provided in full compliance with long term care program standards and all applicable legislation. The Laundry Aide is responsible to perform all assigned responsibilities in accordance with legislated and Omni standards, policies and procedures which are designed to ensure that services are provided to residents and their family members in keeping with their needs and preferences… always with a primary focus on excellence in customer service.
The Laundry Aide is responsible to work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, supporting and demonstrating the Omni Mission, Vision and Values and the principles of Respect Always, making every effort to ensure that the provisions of the Resident Bill of Rights are practiced without exception.
The Laundry Aide shall serve as a member of the Environmental Services Department and a mentor to newly hired employees, leading by example to inspire and motivate every individual to recognize the value they bring to the lives of residents and their colleagues. Performance Requirements
1. Assist the Environmental Services Manager to ensure that laundry services are efficient and in full compliance with the Fixing Long Term Care Act and Regulations, Accreditation standards and any other pertinent standards and legislated requirements.
2. To provide information as directed to officials of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Long Term Care, Accreditation Canada, Public Health and other consultative and regulatory bodies regarding the laundry services in the home.
3. Perform all assigned laundry duties in accordance with established schedules, policies and procedures.
4. Wash and dry all home linens and residents’ personal clothing and other items as directed.
5. Complete garment care as assigned (ironing, linen and clothing repairs, labelling etc.)
6. Retrieve soiled laundry from resident care areas and deliver clean linens and resident clothing as assigned.
7. Demonstrate respect for the residents’ privacy and personal belongings in the performance of all duties, follow appropriate directions for laundering to avoid damage to residents’ garments.
8. Promote the rights and dignity of each resident in accordance with the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
9. Assist the Environmental Service Manager with the assessment of product and external service quality as required.
10. Communicate and work co-operatively and supportively with all members of the multidisciplinary care team.
11. Assist with the orientation of laundry personnel as assigned.
12. Ensure the maintenance of a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors; adhere to expectation that hazardous conditions and actions are promptly corrected and reported; apply the principles and standards of Safety First, using consistency in the application of policies and procedures which have been developed to provide a safe work environment for all staff; utilize personal protective devices in accordance with home policy.
13. Adhere to all established policies and procedures in Infection Control.
14. Adhere to the established systems of reporting and recording.
15. Represent support and enthusiasm for each of the Omni core programs.
16. Participate in continuous Quality Improvement and Risk Management activities as directed.
17. Assist with the receiving and storage of supplies; ensure that products are stored in accordance with safety standards and home policy and procedure.
18. Participate in committee meetings, seminars, in service and other educational programs as directed. Participate in 100% of all required education programs.
19. Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications Education
1. A minimum grade ten education is required. Complete secondary school education is preferred. Knowledge
1. Demonstrated understanding of and respect for the rights of the long term care resident.
2. Knowledge of the safe and effective use of cleaning and laundry supplies and equipment. 3. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, Infection Control and WHMIS requirements.
4. Ability to read and write appropriately.
