Job Overview
The Lead Carpenter will act as the general day to day manager of the site. They should be confident in all aspects of construction, from demolition, framing, trim, tile and clean-up in high-end residential construction, including renovations, additions and custom home construction. The Lead Carpenter has a strong attention to detail, keen to lead a team of individuals, possess problem solving capabilities, take pride in quality workmanship and customer service. The Lead Carpenter is the “working” leader on site and they must have strong verbal communication & listening skills making them capable of directing other carpenters, skilled and unskilled laborers, and sub trades working on site.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities and duties expected include but are not limited to:
- Carries a site from start to completion, undertaking site organization, high level of quality workmanship, meeting scheduled dates and within budget, coordinating of material and equipment needs as well as the ongoing project schedule.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple job sites simultaneously, including interactions and communication between clients, Construction Manager, and sub-trades.
- Be a positive and professional ambassador of the company on site to all clients, neighbours, sub trades, building officials, and team members; capable of working alone or managing a crew; train & lead a team of apprentices, skilled and unskilled labourers.
- Able to perform physical activities such as heavy lifting, bending, standing for long periods of time, climbing and walking; Maintains the established safety rules and a clean and organized worksite.
- Knowledge of construction methods and various trades, such as: safe demolition practices, framing experience in floor systems, walls, roof trusses, hand cut roofs, underlayment, drywall hanging, taping and finishing, painting, all types of flooring installation, finish carpentry (trim detail, casing, baseboard, shoe mold, crown and cabinet installation), window and door installation; Capable of reading and interpreting construction drawings with required scales; basic knowledge of mechanical trades such as Plumbing, Heating, Electrical.
- Driving with large trucks and various trailers daily; knowledgeable understanding of securing/tarping loads on both enclosed and open flatbed trailers.
Qualifications
- Excellent understanding of rough & finish carpentry methods & techniques
- 5+ years of recent carpentry experience (particularly in residential renovation and construction)
- 2+ Years of project management experience (preferred)
- Experience managing a crew of co-workers / laborers in a construction environment
- 3+ years of experience in driving G class trucks with trailers
