Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a Library Technician Diploma program from a college of applied arts and technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of relevant and recent work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information services in a public library, and library materials in all media and formats.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Internet resources appropriate to library use.
  • Proven ability to efficiently use current technology to carry out work routines, including very high proficiency in MS Office, desktop publishing and website design tools.
  • Proven ability to learn and perform library routines with accuracy and attention to detail and ability to do work requiring independent judgment.
  • Experience planning and delivering programs in a public library setting.
  • Experience providing technology support to the public, including basic internet and application usage, and electronic services (databases, downloadable audiobooks & ebooks, etc.).
  • Experience preparing and formatting digital promotions (e.g. website and social media channels).

JOB DUTIES:

This position is responsible for reference and programming.Duties include, but are not restricted to:

  • Advise and assist library users in the selection of materials in all media; provide research and resource assistance to the public, answer information inquiries making referrals to other library members as appropriate, and implement other information duties as required.
  • Under the direction of the Manager of Public Service assist in the planning & implementation of various programs and services.
  • Under the direction of the Manager of Public Services, may provide outreach and services to all residents of Scugog.
  • Deliver technology support to the public, including basic internet and application usage, and electronic services (databases, downloadable audiobooks & ebooks, etc.).
  • Under the direction of the Manager of Public Services, may assist in preparing and formatting digital promotions (e.g. website and social media channels).
  • Assist the CEO and Manager of Public Services in maintaining the library’s website, as assigned.
  • May assist with the development (selection and weeding) of information resources through tasks prepared by the Manager of Public Services.
  • Under the direction of the Manager of Public Services, may book and conduct library tours and/or class visits.
  • Responsible for accurate compilation of program statistics as required.
  • Keep informed of new materials added to the collection and new resources available outside the Library.
  • Acts as the staff member 'in charge' of library operations in the absence of the Manager of Public Services or CEO.
