Position: Long-Term Care Assistant (LTCA-REC) - Temporary Causal

Wage: $16.97 per hour
Nakile is a 48-bed long-term care facility located in Glenwood, Yarmouth County. Our staff works together to maintain a home-like atmosphere and a healthy workplace. The Recreation Team focuses on quality small groups, age-stage appropriate interventions and best practices for dementia care.
Our Recreation Department seeks someone genuinely interested in working with our senior population. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with those with dementia through our Dementia Support Program, lead small groups, supervise outside activities, assist with social visits and virtual visits, and screen and stock screening areas for those coming into Nakile, depending on potential outbreak status.
The Dementia support staff will assist residents with dementia under the guidance of the Recreation Coordinator and other Nakile staff. Their role is to create a comfortable and calming environment that resembles a home-like experience. They will also encourage residents to participate in simple activities to reduce frustration and stress-related behaviors.
This temporary position requires using devices such as tablets, Bluetooth speakers, computer software and other smart devices. Furthermore, knowledge of dementia, especially preventing and responding to responsive behaviours using leisure and other methods, is necessary for this position.
These shifts range from 4hrs to 12hrs, from 8:30 am-8:30 pm, seven days a week and will vary from 24hrs- 40hrs per week. Start and end times will vary depending on resident and visitor needs. Flexible shifts are available; however, evening and weekend coverage is necessary. Students are encouraged to apply. Employment subject venerable sector check.
