Maintenance Operator (1 year contract)

Walker Environmental

Walker Environmental, a division of Walker Industries, is a leading resource recovery and waste management company. The company owns and operates landfills, waste transfer and haulage facilities, Biosolids processing plants, composting facilities, food/residual organic processing facilities and landfill gas renewable energy projects throughout Canada. Our product brands, created from the recovery of resources often considered waste, include N-Rich®, All Treat Farms® and Gro-Bark®.

Maintenance Operator

Today, we have an opening for a Maintenance Operator at our Halifax Biosolids plant on a temporary (1) year contract.

Our philosophy to biosolids management is simple – complete the cycle. We recover the valuable resources contained in this “waste” and return them to the earth where they belong.

The high standard of our services, technology, and environmental stewardship sets us apart from others in the industry – and has created fast-paced growth across Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance monitoring;
  • Daily data entry;
  • Operate and maintain process equipment;
  • Ensure all regular/preventative maintenance is performed and documented;
  • Maintain inventory of tools, replacement parts and supplies;
  • Document daily processing parameters.
  • Maintain plant cleanliness and organization.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 graduate with some post-secondary training preferred. Post-secondary students in engineering/technology, skilled trades, environmental science or other related fields will also be considered.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Heavy Equipment experience preferred– (i.e. wheel loader)
  • Work in a rotating shift schedule with evenings and weekend work
  • Be able to work alone occasionally
  • Ability to work in small teams
  • Have a mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot process and equipment issues.
  • Perform light preventative maintenance duties and support Lead Hand with larger repairs.
  • Familiarity with analytical sampling methods for environmental compliance monitoring.
  • Required to be clean shaven for occasional respirator use.

Working at Walker Industries

Established in 1887, we are proud to be a fifth-generation, family-owned, Canadian company. Our group of companies includes aggregates, paving & construction, emulsions and environmental waste & recycling solutions. We are known for our philanthropy and ‘above and beyond’ service to our customers and communities.

There’s a lot more we’re proud of too.

We’re proud to be growing, serving more customers and providing more jobs across Canada and the US.

We’re proud of our environmental stewardship – turning waste into useful products and energy and working to the highest standards of disposal.

We’re proud to use the best tools and technology in the business – serving our customers well and keeping our employees safe.

And we’re proud of an awesome people-first culture. Working here means being part of a team – not a cog in a machine – and even in regional offices we feel valued, autonomous, and central to the action. Everyone at Walker has a voice.
