As the Manager of Merchandise Accounting you will be a key member of the Canadian Tire Retail Accounting team and take on the challenge of a financial reporting role in a unique and complex environment. Managing a team of nine staff members your areas of responsibility include Sales, Cost of Sales, and Warranties for all CTC BUs. You will take accountability for the Dealer/Corporate margin split calculation and related contractual interpretation and analysis. You will interact with various areas of the business (i.e. Merchandising, FP&A, Marketing, Supply Chain, A/R, A/P, Treasury and I.T.) to ensure that results are properly and accurately reported on a timely basis. You will become a "subject-matter-expert" for all levels for senior management on your areas of responsibility and play a key role in projects related to these areas.
- Ensure the financial results are in compliance with IFRS
- Communicate significant variances to expected results (budget and historical trends) - this will require an understanding of CTR's business processes and the ability to understand and link impacts of business strategies and events into all financial analysis
- Review journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the monthly close process
- Ensure accounting practices are in compliance with the Dealer Contract
- Represent CTR in discussions with external and internal auditors around key accounting policy decisions
- Ensure compliance with CEO/CFO Certification requirements
- Manage and develop nine direct reports to maximize performance of the team
- Focus on continuous process improvement and automation
- Ensure financial systems are operating effectively
- CPA, CPA, CMA, CPA, CGA designation required
- Proven ability to successfully lead other team members
- Excel at investigating and solving complex problems and accounting issues
- Experience in delivering timely and accurate financial reporting for senior management
- Current technical knowledge of IFRS and the ability to determine appropriate treatment of financial transactions
- Solid financial and technical skills coupled with strong analytical ability
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships
- Ability to thrive in an environment responsive to changing business requirements
- Solid PC skills (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with Oracle Financial system i.e, HFM, PeopleSoft, Smartview, and ARC an asset
- CTR experience an asset
