Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director, this position is responsible for providing creative and innovative leadership ensuring the delivery of quality patient care within the cardiovascular program. The scope of the role involves providing management, administrative and clinical leadership to all staff in a supportive and empowering manner, inspiring others, effectively managing financial and human resources, overseeing clinical operations, risk management, promoting excellence in patient care and advancing team effectiveness and efficiency of multidisciplinary Professional Practice Model.

As an integral member of the Cardiology program leadership team, the Manager will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team including physicians, to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of patient care services within the program.

The Manager is responsible for the effective operation of Cardiovascular and Stroke services, leadership and management which will include any or all areas within the Cardiology and Stroke oversights-Catheterization Labs, Coronary Care Unit, Inpatient Cardiology, Cardiac Diagnostics, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Stroke Care. Responsibilities include the ongoing development of the patient care teams, and serves as the link between staff, the physicians’ leaders, and other clinical service support areas. Also, to support and implement evidence based, best practices and continuing process improvements to meet unit, program and organizational goals. The manager participates in Cardiovascular and Stroke Program visioning, planning, and evaluation at both the local and regional level.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and member of a regulated health care profession required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience in Cardiology care and supports (specifically Catheterization lab, Coronary Care unit, Inpatient Cardiology/Stroke etc.), with demonstrated clinical and leadership skills, including previous supervisory or management experience
  • Current registration with College of Nurse of Ontario
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence informed practice and patient and family-centred care
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage quality improvement projects guided by LEAN and project management principles.
  • Expert in financial analysis and budget management
  • Effective and exceptional communication skills with internal (i.e. support services, other clinical programs) and external partners (i.e. Ontario Health Teams, Home and Community Care, CorHealth, Stroke Network etc)
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and a commitment to continuing professional development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated team player and a strong ability to deal with a wide range of individuals tactfully and diplomatically
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership, team building and conflict resolution skills

Proven solid program planning and organizational abilities
Strong and excellent knowledge of best practices related to patient care and expectations

  • Proven strong problem-solving, negotiating, planning and decision making ability
  • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
  • Excellent work performance and attendance

Asset:

  • Ability to speak another language
  • Master’s Degree in a Health discipline preferred
