We are seeking a top-tier professional with an ambitious spirit coupled with a strong business sense and customer service approach as a Manager, Clean Fuels Commercial Development.

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Clean Fuels Commercial Development, the Manager, Clean Fuels Commercial Development is responsible for working with the Clean Fuels team in developing hydrogen, ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other Clean Fuels projects. Key functions include:

  • Identification, evaluation, and development of Clean Fuels opportunities
  • Build, develop and maintain effective external relationships, including with customers, partners and regulators.
  • Develop and maintain internal relationships in order to effectively guide and collaborate with internal cross-functional teams, including engineering, regulatory, financing, analytics, tax, etc., to advance, optimize and de-risk projects.
  • Support/Lead the transition of projects through the development cycle.
  • Support/lead, as the case may be, in collaboration with ATCO's legal representation, the negotiation of commercial agreements.

The Manager will work closely with the senior members of the Clean Fuels team and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and meet ATCO EnPower's project, corporate, financial, safety and ESG objectives.

What You Get To Do:

  • Support/Lead, as the case may be, the management of commercial aspects of development projects as they transition through the development cycle.
  • Guide and collaborate with internal cross-functional teams, including engineering, regulatory, financing, analytics, tax, etc., to advance, optimize and de-risk projects, as well as negotiate and finalize commercial agreements.
  • Support/Lead, as the case may be, internal executive engagement and approval processes, including the development of business cases, slide decks, and other progress and approval documents.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to optimize project scope, development strategy and commercial structure to ensure key objectives are met.
  • Identification, evaluation and development of opportunities within the hydrogen market segment and Clean Fuels segments as appropriate.
  • Build, develop and maintain effective external relationships, including with customers, partners and regulators.
  • Support/lead, as the case may be, in collaboration with ATCO's legal representation, the negotiation of commercial agreements.
  • Represent ATCO EnPower externally with regulators, partners, etc., as well as at conferences.
  • Support the ATCO EnPower Strategy and Economics team in the development and compilation of hydrogen strategy and business plan materials for Canadian Utilities Board of Directors.
  • Provide expertise and knowledge in the development of strategic plans and analyses; evaluating new business opportunities, assessing the competitive landscape, and market fundamentals which underpin growth initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate strategic impacts of ongoing policy, ESG, customer and competitor activities within ATCO EnPower's core hydrogen markets and use competitive intelligence to advance actionable project execution strategies.
  • Support the ATCO EnPower Strategy and Economics team to develop long term strategies that reflect the competitive landscape for hydrogen across competing production technologies and different carbon intensities.

Who You Are:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Commerce or Engineering
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience within commercial, energy project development, engineering, business, finance or closely related role.
  • Enrollment in P.Eng, CFA, CBV, CPA, CA or any related certifications/diploma is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energy sectors and key trends shaping those sectors.
  • Experience in Energy Project Development and commercial structuring. Along with Related Energy Industry Experience
  • Ability to bring a client centric approach, focused on understanding the needs of the customer and how ATCO can best bring value supporting those needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building relationships with business partners and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen with ability to analyze and interpret economic impact of business opportunities and provide recommendations how to best structure the transaction.
  • Demonstrated ability in solving unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.
  • Strong understanding of key energy transition drivers, including policy, climate and ESG factors
  • A strong technical and analytical skill set as it relates to developing, marketing, and executing projects in the hydrogen, chemical, industrial gases and other similar energy sectors.
  • Proven execution abilities in a self-driven work environment
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, expertise with contracts.
  • Experience in project development and structuring is considered an asset.
  • Team player with strong leadership skills.
  • Good understanding of the energy producer markets or energy producer infrastructure needs.
  • An understanding of the Canadian and international energy markets and the competitive landscape is considered an asset.
  • Must be motivated by the continued success of the company and should possess the ability to create shareholder value in a team environment.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to write concise reports and presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to verbally communicate multi‐dimensional issues in a clear manner and act with a sense of diplomacy.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment with minimal direction.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects under tight timelines, with flexibility to work long hours and weekends as required.
