Job Summary:
The Manager, Emergency Department Operations is a leader and member of the management team within this clinical service area, working collaboratively with the Manager, Emergency Department Clinical. This role is primarily responsible and accountable for supporting the business operations of the Emergency program, including but not limited to: non nursing functions (clerical and administrative supports and process), budget and financial management, departmental planning related to performance improvements and other related projects/initiatives. The successful candidate would be required to identify and lead performance measurement activities, ongoing improvement projects to ensure the program was responding to changes in the clinical landscape and achieving quality patient outcomes, while meeting or exceeding Accreditation standards, provincial requirements or other legislative standards. The Operations manager will also lead the teams in coordinating follow-up to patient safety incidents and liaise between the professional/credentialed staff and hospital staff. Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Promote and facilitate a culture of continuous improvement by leading the daily program huddle, proactively identifying problems and challenges faced by frontline staff and collaborating to develop and implement sustainable solutions
- Collaborate with members of the ED Leadership Team, including the Clinical Manager, Nurse Educators, Clinical Coordinators, Physician Leaders and others to execute on department goals and objectives
- Facilitate quality improvement working groups and act as the project manager for unit level initiatives being implemented
- Lead the management of incident reports: involve relevant stakeholders, ensure timely follow-up, identify trends, and initiate appropriate actions or improvement initiatives
- Champion the development of meaningful measures of quality performance and analyze data in order to identify, interpret, and rapidly respond to trends
- Complete monthly financial analysis review and lead the development of annual program budgets based on benchmarking data and targets set
- Recruitment, retention, completion of annual performance appraisals and other related activities for the non-nursing members of the Emergency Department team
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s level preparation in Leadership, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or Healthcare Quality Improvement preferred
- Registered and in good standing with a professional college preferred
- Lean Green Belt or equivalent quality improvement education preferred
Skills & Abilities:
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in a leadership role, preferably within a clinical setting
- Previous experience working within the Emergency, Flow or Quality portfolios of an acute care facility preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in Quality Improvement or Project Management preferred
- Previous experience in managing operational budgets, completing variance report analysis
