We are searching for a Manager of Finance & Farm Administration to bring our strategic plan to life and help us realize our vision for the Farm.
In this role you'll report to the Director of Business Operations and work very closely with us, the Ownership Team. You'll be responsible for organizing, directing and managing a number of core elements of our business, including Finance, HR, Office Management and Asset Management. This is a critical position for our organization, and an outstanding opportunity to own the finance and admin function and play a pivotal role in the continued growth and success of a thriving business.
As our ideal candidate you’re an accounting professional with the drive and hunger to take on a broad range of responsibilities, from Finance to HR to IT and additional operational functions. You’re smart, a quick learner, pragmatic and strategic. You’re a skilled analyst with strong business acumen and the ability to bring numbers to life. If you’re all those things and you have experience in farm finance/operations/administration, you might be absolutely perfect.
Please note that you’ll have the opportunity to learn from the current outgoing Office Manager for the first 6 months of your tenure.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Planning and Reporting
- Coordinate and contribute to annual strategic planning process.
- Provide input and identify trends for farm improvements to quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual business reports to share at meetings and for decision-making as needed.
Finance
- Manage and execute full-cycle accounting, including AP/R, bank and credit card recs, all applicable remittances, financial statement preparation.
- Weekly payroll preparation for our outsourced bookkeeper.
- Coordinate with accounting firm on year-end documentation and monthly reporting
- Identify and complete Grant application opportunities, including research and reporting throughout.
- Consolidated cost reporting for crop profitability.
Human Resources
- Coordinate labour planning and recruitment.
- Maintain and track OH&S requirements, including Forklift, Sprayer Assistance and Food Safety training and documentation, while ensuring the Farm's compliance with all Temporary Foreign Worker Program requirements.
- Prepare Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications with Director of Operations
- Coordinate Canada GAP training and certification.
- Scheduling Foreign-worker appointments.
- Coordinate incoming Foreign-worker arrival packages, health cards, SIN numbers, etc.
Administration & Operations
- Oversee and administer farm insurance, IT, vehicle licensing and water permits.
- Schedule and coordinate inspections of Bunkhouses and records of maintenance.
- Prepare contracts for land and facilities rentals.
Key Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, agricultural management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant experience managing the full accounting cycle.
- Experience in the farming industry is a strong asset.
- Experience liaising with government programs for agricultural grants, Foreign Worker Programs, etc, is an asset.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills.
- A natural problem-solver, quick to learn, and easy to work with.
- Entrepreneurial and pragmatic, with strong business acumen and a continuous improvement mindset.
