Description:
The University of Toronto has embarked on an ambitious campaign to build over $6 billion in capital infrastructure over the next 10 years to meet it’s rapidly growing academic, administrative and residential needs. The UPDC team currently managesing approximately 5,000,000 sq.ft. of capital projects that are either in the planning, design or construction phase and are spread across a wide variety of project types and 3 campuses.  As a result, UPDC regularly produces a large volume to project schedules for planning and approval purposes.  It likewise receives and reviews an enormous amount of project schedule data from consultants and contractors.  UPDC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead the review and management of this information. 
Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Project Development, and working with other UPDC departments (University Planning – UP, Project Development – PD and Project Management - PM), the Manager, Project Scheduling (MPS) is the primary point of contact for UPDC’s production of project plans/schedules as well as for review of project schedules produced by external parties for all active projects within the UPDC group.  Project values will generally range from $1 million to $250 million, with some projects well exceeding this range.  Project types will be institutional (academic/research), student residential and mixed use, but may also include utility infrastructure, landscape and other types. At any given time, UPDC may be managing over 100  projects at various stages of development, documentation or execution.
The MPS possesses a broad knowledge of the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) field and will bring their experience and technical knowledge to bear on their assigned duties.  The MPS will review, analyze and assess the schedule information made available for active projects with an eye to provide advice, input and recommendations with respect to schedule projections and risks.  This review will also include consideration of project specific influences such as stated project programs and budgets, understood feasibility, design complexity and project phasing.  As an outcome of these reviews, the MPS will extract critical data points that will feed into other project or cost tracking mechanisms.
In this important and foundational role, the MPS is expected to think critically, organize, plan, problem solve and execute their duties with an independence that will increase over time.  The MPS will provide support to the Director by undertaking special assigned tasks that will support broader University-wide and UPDC activities or initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
-Completed post-secondary degree/diploma in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, Construction Management
or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
-Formal Project Management training and/or certification is considered an asset.
 
EXPERIENCE:
-Minimum seven (7) years’ professional experience with capital project planning / scheduling in the AEC environment;
-Knowledge of construction techniques and the analysis of architecture, landscape architecture, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering documents; and
-Demonstrated knowledge of the primary methods of project delivery and their schedule impacts on projects, as well as costing and procurement processes.
 
SKILLS:
-Proficiency in the use of standard office applications such as: Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Sharepoint and Adobe Acrobat;
-Proficiency with Oracle Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project software; and
-Working knowledge of LPS tools such as Mural or Miro is an asset.
 
OTHER:
-Demonstrated ability to discern and leverage the individual benefits of CPM and LPS scheduling methodologies;
-Familiarity with industry standard project schedule formats;
-Highly developed initiative with ability to work independently, or as a member of a committee or project team;
-Demonstration of a collaborative mindset with keen facilitation skills;
-Excellent judgment, analytical and problem solving skills to critically analyze capital project plans and documents;
-Demonstrated planning, coordination and organizational skills to conduct reviews of project documentation;
-Superior oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills;
-Ability to exercise patience, tact, diplomacy and discretion;
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a consultative team environment;
-Proven
experience with managing multiple duties concurrently with frequently changing priorities and deadlines, always with a results-oriented focus;
-Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy;
-Ability to work effectively with clients and staff at all levels; and
-Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license is required for travel between University Campuses and/or to consultant/supplier offices etc.
