Job Posting Description:
The Manager is the main lead in the planning, evaluation, development and implementation of the division’s annual budgets for 680+ Retail stores as well as the Retail Operations Head Office cost centres. This position is also responsible for forecasting and monitoring Retail Sales on a daily, weekly, periodic and yearly basis. This position oversees various complex and interrelated databases used to build annual budgets, track sales dollars and transactions, monitor labour and expense spending, new store sales and the impacts on the surrounding trade area, KPI statistics and Daily Sales Forecasting tools.

About the role:

Lead Role for the planning, coordination, preparation, review and implementation of Annual Yearly Budget Process:
  • Collaborates with Finance Division to effectively implement the annual Sales ($6.2B+) and Expense ($550M+) budgets for the entire Store Network.
  • Properly allocate labour work force budget by week for 680+ stores across 53 weeks ($400M+). Distribute Hours and Dollars effectively between various employee types.
  • Supporting the Senior Manager in setting priorities and ensuring the timely completion of tasks within each area of responsibility.

Forecasting and monitoring Retail Sales:
  • Forecast sales by store by day using the Daily Sales Forecasting database. Sound judgment is required to adjust forward looking forecasts for each individual store. These forecasts are integrated with the LCBO’s labour scheduling software to ensure store labour spending is correctly aligned with future sales forecasts.
  • Interact with store managers, district managers, regional directors etc, to gain insight into their reporting requirements, and assist with providing solutions.

Effectively manage and develop the retail planning team:
  • Lead the team in a positive and engaging manner. Responsible for the development of the analysts by providing mentorship, coaching, and finding opportunities for growth by working on new projects and tasks, etc.
  • Assist with employee goal setting, and tracking progress towards those goals throughout each fiscal year. Provide performance appraisals each fiscal year.
  • Review the work that the analysts are doing on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and provide feedback when appropriate. Update the Senior Manager, Retail Planning on projects performed by the team when necessary.
  • Assisting with development of, and ensuring staff understanding of, policies, processes and procedures.
  • Provide effective training and guidance for all new and existing employees.

Prepare and create reports and ad-hoc analysis:
  • Assist with oversight of expense management for the Retail Division store network.
  • Provide timely, accurate financial information to Senior Management to highlight trends, opportunities and risks.
  • Provide formal statistical and financial analyses for various projects and reports & provides recommendations based on the analyses prepared for Managers, Directors, VP and CRO;
  • Develop analytical tools as needed to support Retail Management.
  • Run daily sales reports, periodic expense variance reports, KPI reports, and other reports as required to provide insights to retail team about the strength of the business.

About you:

University Degree with an emphasis on areas of accounting, finance, or business.
5 years’ work experience in a similar management role
Proven leadership experience with strong ability to coach and develop your team
Experience in budgeting, fiscal planning and analysis
Financial designations such as CGA, CA, CMA would be desirable

  • Well-developed skills in the following areas: Budget planning, consulting and relationship-building; leading, coaching and mentoring; problem solving and analysis; talent development and performance evaluation, financial reporting and analysis.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently, setting priorities and handling multiple requests, serving multiple clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management verbally and written and via presentations.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and performance measurement theory.
  • Ability to take the initiative in such areas as service improvement, technology innovation, development, implementation of financial databases.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer systems and software applications including financial management system such as Oracle, Information Library systems, word processing, Excel, spreadsheets and databases. Ability to write macros and advanced formulas is a must
  • Clearly demonstrated self motivational and focus skills.
  • Strong ability to design programs and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of LCBO Procurement Policies and practices, and other departmental programs which include but are not limited to the Employee Relocation program, the Integrity Shop Program, Retail Expense Variance Reporting, Retail store and Retail Head Office labour and operating budgeting, the SPLAN scheduling system, the Collective Agreement and the costing of Retail associated clauses, Retail Health and Safety Statistics, P2P principles, and Retail Store related operating policies and procedures. This position requires the same technical skills level as the Senior Manager, with the ability to develop complex databases / spreadsheets with macros for budget forecasting, and acts as a representative to briefing when the Senior Manager is absent.
