Artemis Gold received its BC Mines Act permit for Blackwater Mine in March 2023 enabling the project to move into major works construction.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Technical Services Manager is responsible for the management, supervision, and the long term plans of engineering, surveying and geology. This includes safety and development of direct and indirect reports, mine planning, annual budgets, ore control and overall stewardship of technical aspects related to mining. In addition, this position is responsible for providing technical guidance/support for site-wide projects to support operations and to ensure quality reporting of operational data.
- Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
- Develop and implement mine plans to optimize ore extraction and resource utilization.
- Collaborate with mining, processing and finance to create optimized mine plans.
- Guide survey to ensure accurate data collection for mine planning and development.
- Geotechnical stewardship over the mine design and operational implementation of the design.
- Plan and optimize drilling and blasting activities to maximize ore recovery while minimizing environmental impact.
- Create and aid in safety measures related to blasting operations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations by implementing best practices in mining operations.
- Develop and implement environmental management plans.
- Prepare and manage budgets for Technical Services and aid with inputs to mining budget.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost control measures.
- Collaborate with various departments such as geology, engineering, and operations to ensure seamless integration of Technical Services.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and other relevant parties.
- Analyze data related to mining activities and provide regular reports to management.
- Use data-driven insights to optimize mining processes and address challenges.
- Technical services is the main owner of site production data. The data must be kept to a high standard and analyzed consistently to support operational excellence.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years experience in various roles within mining operations, with specific focus on development in various technical roles.
- In-depth knowledge of mining engineering principles, including mine planning, drilling and blasting, geotechnical analysis, and production geology.
- Familiarity with the latest technologies and software used in mining operations, such as mine planning software and geostatistical tools.
- Experience in project management and the ability to coordinate activities across different departments.
- Knowledge of mining regulations and environmental compliance standards.
- Experience in developing and implementing plans to ensure operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Understanding of the economic aspects of mining operations, including budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis.
- Start up experience considered an asset.
- Ability to create a world class Mine Technical Services department.
- Strong leadership qualities and the ability to manage and lead a technical team effectively.
- Ability to complete the work, lead by example.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- The ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, present findings, and communicate with stakeholders is crucial.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address technical challenges in mining operations.
- The capability to analyze data, interpret geological information, and make informed decisions.
- Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.
- Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
