- Due to a vacancy, the Municipality of Grey Highlands is receiving applications to fill the position of Municipal Services Assistant. Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the successful candidate will perform duties in accordance to departmental and corporate work plans and priorities.
What you will do:
Reporting to the Chief Building Official or their delegate, as part of the Building Department, the successful candidate will perform duties in accordance with departmental and corporate work plans and priorities, including but not limited to the following:
- Respond to public inquiries via in-person, telephone and email.
- Receives and reviews building permit applications for completeness.
- Receives payments, issues receipts, balance deposits, track, and issue refunds.
- Inputting of building permits electronically into the permitting software
- Data entry, word processing, correspondence, processing of mail and filing
- Receiving and scheduling of building inspections
- Inputting, maintaining, and assessing databases and files related to building permits.
What the ideal candidate will possess:
- A college diploma in Office Administration or a building architectural related discipline
- A minimum of two (2) years administrative experience (municipal experience is an asset)
- Working knowledge of municipal government functions and procedures
- Accounts Payable/Receivable experience would be an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Technical expertise with Microsoft office programs and ability to manage multiple projects and pressures.
- Experience with Vadim or Keystone municipal software would be an asset.
- Knowledge of records management will be considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, diplomacy and confidentiality.
- Courtesy, discretion, and compassion when dealing with the public.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Working knowledge of Municipal Acts and by-laws including the building code act and the Ontario Building Code are considered an asset.
What we will require:
- A Police Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the Municipality
- Proof of your current and valid certificate(s), licenses and/or educational qualifications, if applicable
- Three valid references for a background check
