We invite Occupational Therapists to apply for a relief, full time opening at Cottonwoods Care Facility. This position will work on a 58 bed Short Stay unit, with emphasis on occupational therapy Cognitive, Functional plus Dysphagia Assessments, occupational therapy Interventions and Discharge Planning. Days of work are Mondays to Fridays; 07:00 to 15:00 hours. This position will provide coverage until March 2024, or return of incumbent.
Short Stay is a slow-stream Rehab Unit where clients with sub-acute conditions go and work with a combined Rehab and Nursing Team to help optimize their function and safety before they can go home after a recent illness or surgery that led to an acute hospital stay.
Care for the unit is functionally divided into three, with the Occupational Therapist working closely within and among the other Rehab teams (Physiotherapists, Rehab Assistants) as well as the complementary Nursing teams (LPN and care aids). There are also two RNs and a Nursing Patient Care Coordinator that work collectively with the teams and the clients.
In additional to assessing clients after admission to the unit, you will be integral in discharge planning and consultation to the health care and professional staff on the unit. The Occupational Therapist will be expected to have good decision making skills, clinical knowledge and assist with discharge planning of mostly geriatric clients.
Professional Occupational Therapy practice is supported at multiple levels. Locally by the Short Stay Rehab and Nursing teams. Direct supervision for this group is provided by an OT Section Head for Short Stay. General practice as part of a group led by an Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Leader, with operational oversight from an Allied Health Manager. Mentoring and mentee opportunities abound as you are surrounded by other OTs of various backgrounds, skills and experience.
This position is suitable for a new grad or a seasoned therapist. We are seeking an Occupational Therapist who works well within the team but is also able to work independently with good people and communication skills. Ability to coach and educate clients. Willing to learn new skills.
