Job Summary
Reporting to the Area Manager, the Operation Manager is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation of a single unit. This role works closely the Area Manager, assuming greater responsibilities in their absence. They help to coordinate communicative action with Dispatch, Maintenance, Customers, Training, Drivers and School Officials. This role requires an adept learner capable of decisive action and real-time problem-solving skills.
Job Duties
- Interdepartmental coordination for various stakeholders
- Liaise with customers; proactively and reactively
- Coordinate daily efforts in conjunction with customer expectations and needs.
- Documentation and file maintenance.
- Adhere to compliance-based regulations from a Company, Federal, Provincial and Municipal perspective.
- Assess and recommend updates to policy and procedure manuals.
- Assist with the Recruitment process including; interviews, selection and training new drivers.
- Have knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable Federal, Provincial and Municipal laws and regulations; Registry of Motor Vehicles Act, Workers Compensation, Occupational Health and Safety
- Assist with the development and implementation of a proactive safety platform.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in a School Bus Administration role
- Working knowledge of all functional areas of a unit’s operation.
- Possess or willing to obtain a valid Class B license
- Maintain professional commercial driver’s license.
- Successfully obtain First Aid & CPR certification
- Must be capable of learning to communicate effectively with a 2-way radio
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Internet.
- Complete a Professional Instructor in Driver Education course.
Education
- Completion of studies from an accredited post-secondary learning institution
- Secondary School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years of related transportation industry work experience
Physical & Additional Requirements
- Ability to walk, bend, twist and turn
- Climbing stairs may be required
- Ability to travel based on business needs to various interprovincial locations.
Working Conditions
- Hours of work include darkness and changing light conditions.
- Work environment may be uneven terrain, snow/ice covered.
- Working temperatures may include severe cold in winter.
