PURPOSE
The Operations Manager is the key leader, and linkage between activities in compounding, production (including filling/packaging) and shipping/receiving. To manage the production floor and all line employees, responsible for production output on all filling and labeling lines and to include repackaging and refurbishing; Ensure safe work practices are maintained within the department. Manage interactions between departments and within departments to ensure highest level of production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Principle Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned).
- Employ a continuous improvement mindset. Analyze scrap, loss and downtime using Root Cause Analysis tools and recommend and implement improvements where necessary, resulting in increased output, efficiency, decreased costs, scrap and downtime
- Collaborate with Demand Planning to proactively identify roadblocks/scheduling issues and work to eliminate problems before they reach the production floor
- Oversee and direct activities of setup and maintenance mechanics. Utilize CMMS to increase uptime, decrease scrap/loss and improve yield and right-first-time output.
- Ensure that all personnel within the department are trained in and comply with safety standards at all times. Sustain health and safety mindset by identifying and eliminating risks and hazards on the floor and fostering environment in which concerns are discussed and resolved
- Maintain compliance within department to all GMP and regulatory requirements at all times
- Manage projects (i.e. new equipment, new procedures, etc.) to improve overall department efficiency in cost-effective manner
- Ensure timely start-ups of each line in the mornings and after changeovers
- Ensure proper documentation is maintained for each production run (work orders, skid tickets, line leader sheets, time cards)
- Compile downtime reports and identify solutions to downtime issues to improve production output while maintaining product quality
- Coordinate, organize and schedule all componentry through Supervisor to production lines
- Coordinate all bulk material to lines for production through the Compounding Supervisor
- Coordinate and transfer of stock to the warehouse through the Warehouse Supervisor and the porters
- Create and update daily and weekly production summaries
- Provide direction to all line employees as to their duties on all packaging lines
- Maintain good housekeeping of packaging areas
- Interaction with the Quality Control department to ensure defect free products and timely sign-off lines

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Diploma/Degree in a related field preferred
- 8-10 Years of experience in manufacturing industry. High-speed filling/packaging preferred
- 5+ years experience in a management position
- Training/experience in Root Cause Analysis methods and 5S required. Project Management experience in Microsoft Project or alternate would be an asset
- Experience with Adage/ASSISTics or similar MRP would be a definite asset
- Demonstrable experience in utilizing CMMS required
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office) required. Demonstration of advanced skills in Excel will be required

Office environment utilizing the phone and computer frequently. Physical effort (lifting up to 50lbs, moving pallets, pallet jacks etc.) may occasionally be required. Some travel required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where problems occur and volumes are heavy. Tasks do not expose employee to physically unpleasant or hazardous conditions.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- $86,000- $105,000 CAD (commensurate with experience and location).
