Job Summary: Provide leadership and supervision to the overnight operations of The Lighthouse Emergency Shelter, Diversion, and Housing Engagement; in keeping with The Lighthouse vision, mission, and values, under the direction of the Shelter and Housing Director (S&HD).
Accountability: Able to affirm the vision, mission, and beliefs of The Lighthouse by demonstrating a commitment to our organization's values of trust, compassion, leadership, safety, and faith with sensitivity to the issues related to poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions, and developmental disabilities with a commitment to a discrimination-free environment.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and provide support for all direct reports.
- Ensure team meetings are being conducted following the Meeting Plan.
- Conduct regularly scheduled (weekly/bi-weekly) 1:1’s with direct reports.
- Developing and ensuring all training is completed and up to date.
- Ensure that all direct reports and those being supervised are maintaining professionalism and completing daily functions as required by the organization.
Supervision
- Complete onboarding/orientation/training of all new staff and track each new team member, at the direction of the Shelter and Housing Director.
- Assist the Shelter and Housing Director with the hiring and coaching process of direct reports.
- Conduct probationary and annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Create and manage staff schedules and relief lists, using the Payworks program.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.
- Ensuring all direct reports understand their responsibilities and are familiar with the policies and procedures of The Lighthouse.
- Assist with the implementation of the housing-focused shelter standards and ensure all staff are trained on this and using the diversion program.
- Follow and ensure that the plan for all donations is followed in the protocols set forth by the organization.
- Assist with the motel voucher program and community programs using diversion and housing support referrals and partnerships.
- Assist with the evaluation of programs from a housing-focused perspective.
- Respond according to program protocols to emergencies or crises.
Safety
- Ensure health and safety procedures are implemented and adhered to.
- Ensure that the workers complete a respectful and dignified check of participants' belongings before going to bed for the night to maintain a safe environment.
- Always wear and ensure your team is wearing their panic button; signing in and out on each shift.
- Ensure frequent circle checks of the inside and outside of the building; This is to be done in pairs.
- Ensure the cameras are all in working order and continue to use them and encourage their use throughout the shift to monitor for any issues.
- Address, record, and report any safety concerns promptly. Be sure to fix what is in your power immediately.
- Contact your Direct Supervisor and HR immediately if a serious occurrence or employee injury occurs.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Ensure workers clean floors each night both upstairs and downstairs.
- Ensure workers clean and sanitize all high-touch surfaces.
- Ensure workers clean employee and public bathrooms.
- Ensure workers complete laundry tasks.
- Ensure workers clean the laundry room.
- Ensure workers clean storage, as required.
- Ensure workers take out garbage, recycling, and green waste as required.
- Ensure the recording and reporting of all maintenance issues promptly.
Reporting
- Provide information to the Shelter and Housing Director for Board Report.
- Provided information for the weekly Monday Message.
- Ensure that all payables are coded correctly as required.
- Using the organizational approved reporting system, ensure all data is collected promptly and precisely.
- Ensure payroll is completed for direct reports and assist other team members with payroll ensuring that approval is done within the deadline.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- College diploma or University degree in business management, human resources or social work, or equivalent.
- 2-3 years experience in shelter and/or housing leadership and supervision.
- Experience in developing people and fostering teamwork.
- Experience in developing and managing schedules
- Experience with database management and data collection
- Computer skills, including Google Drive.
- High standard of integrity, judgement and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication, supervisory and community relationship skills.
- Excellent customer service, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with compassion and sensitivity to the issues related to poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions and developmental disabilities, with a commitment to a discrimination-free environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening.
- Reliable transportation.
- Must be flexible in terms of hours worked.
