Sweets from the Earth is a commercial bakery operation at Steeles W. and Keele, specializing in vegan, nut free and non-GMO baked goods. As one of fastest growing mid-sized companies in Canada, we are looking for experienced, well-rounded candidates to grow our team and expand the company.
We are currently looking for a Packaging Equipment Technician to oversee all flow wrapper operations from start to end of shift, set up the flow wrappers at each product changeover and film roll change, troubleshoot equipment issues, and perform daily maintenance activities such as cleaning, lubricating, and performing pre-op checks on each line. Our Packaging Equipment includes vertical and horizontal flow wrappers, band sealers, pouch fillers, scales, metal detectors, rotary tables, food cutters.
You will be responsible for monitoring the quality of the packaging to meet company standards and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Machine Setup and Adjustment: Set up and adjust mechanical and servo flow wrapper machines according to product specifications, including film roll changes, speed adjustments, lot code printing setup, and sealing parameters.
- Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on flow wrapper machines, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts to prevent downtime and ensure smooth daily operation.
- Quality Control: Monitor the packaging process to ensure that products are packaged accurately, securely, and in compliance with quality standards. Conduct regular quality checks and make adjustments as needed to maintain product integrity. This includes ensuring the bag length is optimal, all the seals look good, and lot code is legible.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues with flow wrapper machines in a timely manner to minimize production disruptions. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic problems and implement corrective actions as required.
- Waste Reduction: You will be responsible to monitor clear and printed film waste, and ensure machines are set up efficiently to minimize film and product waste.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machine settings, maintenance activities, and quality inspections so they can be populated in the ERP. Email daily report on any issues or improvements required to optimize the flow wrappers.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and GMP procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues. Follow company policies and guidelines regarding food safety, hygiene, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience operating and maintaining flow wrapper machines in a food manufacturing environment is required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair machinery.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain quality standard.
· Must be efficient, organized, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
· Position involves being on the production floor on your feet all day.
Full time, Hourly
8am to 4:30 pm
Occasional weekends for special projects or monthly PMs
