THE ROLE
Paramedic
This is a permanent part-time role at the County, with an hourly compensation range of $39.30 - $42.68.
THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Paramedic in our Emergency Services division you will work with
minimal supervision, assuming a versatile role as both a patient care
provider and driver in a pre-hospital environment.
You will also deliver primary care to individuals who are ill or injured,
ensuring continuous patient support during transportation to and from
medical facilities, residences, or other destinations.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Paramedic will work under limited supervision and in the interchangeable role as patient care provider and/or
driver, in a pre-hospital setting, rendering primary care to ill and/or injured persons; providing sustaining patient
care while transporting to or from medical facility, residence or other locations.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Education
- Certification as a Primary Care Paramedic, including current certification in Symptom Relief, semi-automated
defibrillation and all other auxiliary protocols currently endorsed by a local Base Hospital Medical Director or ability and
commitment to obtain certification upon being hired
- College Diploma in Paramedic Studies
- EMCA OR A-EMCA certified by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) or ability and commitment
to obtain A-EMCA certification upon being hired
Experience
- Must be qualified to work in an ambulance in Ontario as required by the Ambulance Act, Regulations 257/00
- Current certification in CPR
- Valid ‘F’ class Ontario Drivers Licence
Knowledge/Skills
- Proven knowledge and understanding of Emergency Medical Services System, BLS Standards, relevant Policies and
Procedures, Acts and Regulations as they pertain to day-to-day operations
- Professional and responsible driving skills and habits and good understanding of the Highway Traffic Act to ensure
compliance with same
- Must be physically able to perform duties of the job (to exert heavy physical effort, using proper techniques, to treat and
move patients) and be free of all communicable diseases as per Ambulance Act, Regulations Standards
- Proven ability to read, write and speak English language fluently
- Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with people under extremely sensitive and stressful situations
- Good map reading abilities and initiative to enhance knowledge of local geography
- Proven ability related to the professional application of the Restricted Radio Operator’s license
- Proven ability to work under stressful situations and exercise sound judgment in an emergency environment (required
to make decisions in an emergency situation)
- Proven ability to work closely and effectively with the entire healthcare team
- Proven ability to adapt to a changing work environment (e.g. new technology)
- Technology Aptitude
o Demonstrated fundamental computer skills to perform basic tasks on various technological devices
and programs while adhering to cybersecurity and an awareness of best practices .
o Proven ability to follow steps that are well defined to obtain / input information;
o Use software on a regular and recurring basis to key in basic data (for example, time input into e-
Timesheets, etc.) and send e-mails.
