Classification and Salary:
Maintenance Service Worker 1(MSW1) – Park Maintenance Service Worker:
$20.14 - $24.22 per hour
Maintenance Service Worker 3 (MSW3) – Park Maintenance Crew Lead:
$24.68 - $30.16 per hour
For all roles:
- 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
- 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:
- $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
- $2.75 per hour for evenings

Role Responsibilities
We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Maintenance Workers for the 2024 summer season. Individuals will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of Cooking Lake-Blackfoot PRA day use areas, facilities and trail system.
We are currently looking to hire:
- 1 Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3)
- 3 Park Maintenance Workers (MSW1)
As a Park Maintenance Service Worker (MSW1), duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Performing landscaping, building cleaning and site servicing of day use areas and facilities
- Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment
- Operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, OHVs, skid steers, etc.
- Assisting with trail maintenance
- Operates chainsaws, brushaws and other higher risk equipment
- Installing and maintaining signage
- Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly
- Assists with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs
- Responding to in-person requests for information on area amenities and Park conditions, as needed
- Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols as well as with the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols
- Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses
As the Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3), primary duties include assisting with and performing MSW1 duties in addition to some front-line administrative and supervisory tasks such as:
- Providing direct supervision, leadership and guidance to Maintenance Service Workers
- Coordinating and documenting routine and preventative maintenance on all infrastructure in the Provincial Recreation Areas (PRA)
- Coordinating trail maintenance projects
- Maintains roads and Parking lot areas
- Operates heavy equipment (such as loaders, graders, groomers, garbage trucks, etc.)
- Responsible for reporting back to Supervisor on completed tasks
All positions will require you to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any time of weather conditions, rain or shine.

Qualifications
Park Maintenance Worker– (Maintenance Service Worker 1)
- Some high school education or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education
Park Maintenance Crew Lead 3– (Maintenance Service Worker 3)
- Some high school education or related training, plus two years of related experience or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education and some supervision experience
Additional Assets to be successful in any of the roles:
- Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small equipment
- Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions
- Chainsaw certification
- Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints
- Experience working within a backcountry setting
Notes
For the Park Maintenance Worker 1 role: ( up to 3 positions):
- Late April start date to late August end date
For the Park Maintenance Crew Lead role: (up to 1 position)
- Early April start date to late October end date
For all positions:
- Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required.
- Final Candidates may be required to provide an acceptable 5 year Commercial Driver’s Abstract. (Will be reimbursed)
- Prior to hire, Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate will be needed for MSW3 Crew Lead positions
- Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate is an asset for MSW1 Maintenance Worker positions
- Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided. Certified Safety footwear is not provided, but candidates will be reimbursed for a portion of the cost.
- These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
- Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (late April/early May)
- Staff housing may be available in Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area
