Position Summary:

Reporting to the Public Works Supervisors, the Parks Seasonal Labourer is responsible for performing general maintenance duties at municipal parks, outdoor sports fields and special events to ensure attractive, orderly and well-maintained park and recreational areas and provide a pleasant outdoor environment for all users and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily maintenance and cleaning of park grounds, splash pad, amphitheatre, washrooms, trails, sports facilities and municipal properties including grass cutting, trimming and weeding.
• Daily, ongoing litter and debris pickup, maintenance and cleaning of the concession areas and parking lots.
• Sports field maintenance including line painting and diamond grooming.
• Horticultural maintenance of landscaping and gardens including weeding, trimming and watering.
• Setup and cleanup for rentals and special events hosted at municipal parks and facilities. Some events including, but not limited to Mill St. Markets, amphitheatre concerts, tournaments, etc. will require seasonal staff to work during the events.
• Maintain stock and supplies for various park facilities.
• Daily opening, closing, and ongoing routine cleaning of park washroom facilities as per the established schedule.
• Provide friendly customer service to members of the community, tourists and user groups.
• Daily watering of hanging baskets, planters and gardens as required.
• Complete daily inspections/activity logs of park areas.
• Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, as well as the Municipality’s Health and Safety Program.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

• Must have a secondary school diploma or equivalent GED, or post-secondary education.
• Must demonstrate an ability to perform a variety of manual tasks related to the
• Public Works division.
• Heavy lifting may be required at times.
• Must possess a valid G2 Ontario Drivers Licence. Experience driving heavy-duty full- size pickups and large trucks up to 550 series is considered an asset.
• Must have experience with the operation of utility tractors/riding lawnmowers, weed eaters, turf and landscaping equipment.
• Knowledge of lawn and sports field maintenance and experience is an asset.
• Familiarity with a construction environment is an asset.

Hours of Work and Working Conditions:
40 hours per week (Sunday-Saturday). Daytime, evening and holiday hours are required. Hours may vary depending on weather conditions.

Seasonal, Non-Union.
