Job Summary

The Partner, Business Systems is responsible for overseeing the Financial Planning (FP) functional technology processes, which includes the development, automation, integrity, continuity, security, and support of financial system processes. The role partners with CN's Technology and Systems Applications and Products (SAP) S4 Hana project groups on Financial Planning's digital transformation initiatives. The incumbent controls reports and tools used by numerous financial partners to provide insight to their customers, including their automation and maintenance. Moreover, the position assists in the creation and development of data and tools to assist in handling CN's financial planning's activities as well as financial analysis in a support function.

Main Responsibilities

Financial Planning Systems Processes

·Lead and support FP systems ranging from SAP/S4 Hana, Business Warehouse (BW), Analysis for Office, Dodeca Excel Add-in, Basic Points (BPS), Oracle Essbase and Structured Query Language (SQL)

·Monitor budget and forecast consolidation while ensuring data integrity

·Expand and enhance reporting tools continuously while ensuring their effectiveness and dependability for accurate budgeting and forecasting together with critical business decision-making

·Sustain integrity and accuracy of systems and data while ensuring process fluidity

·Maintain systems and processes continuity, collaborate and coordinate with Information and Technology (I&T) to ensure processes and systems are up to date with CN I&T standards

·Process change requests through the Master Data Maintainer role in SAP S4 Hana

·Handle security roles and controls and direct annual access reviews for BW Operating and Capital cubes, SAP S4 Hana accesses, Essbase, SQL and other related systems

·Handle FP communications on key deliverables, knowledge sharing and updates including the FP SharePoint site

·Take on new processes as required, analyze options, and make recommendations on solutions including implementation roadmap with change management for successful deployment

·Find and interpret rich data sources, merge, and ensure consistency of datasets

·Direct to appropriate I&T support to resolve certain issues

Financial Processes Support and Analytics

·Respond to ad hoc requests, and leverage judgment and skills by providing insights in a format that can be easily consumed and interpreted by internal customers and executives

·Leverage an understanding of CN business, correlation of operating Key Performers Indicators (KPIs), and financial information to create analysis on underlying subject matter

·Provide visibility on controllable and actionable cost levers, trend analysis, sensitivities, and performance to enable CN leadership team in effective decision-making and draw insights on action items that can positively impact operations

·Prepare monthly consolidated Business Performance Monitor report, which is issued to the Executive Committee and act as liaison with financial partners representing various functions

·Prepare recurring deliverables including the statistics submissions for the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), fuel dashboard, regulatory reports, and external audit and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) deliverables

·Ensure dashboards KPIs are dynamic, appropriate, and that management actions result from analysis through translating management information into recommendations

·Query large datasets and use data science techniques and link related factors to reveal performance, safety, or cost-saving opportunities

·Develop and optimize Tableau and Power BI reports and applications to deliver simplified analytics to support insight development

Continuous Improvement

·Act as main contact and Product Owner for enhancement of internal reporting systems by collaborating with the Technology group to develop a service offering for systems support

·Support SAP S/4HANA implementation to ensure smooth integration and advising on enhancement opportunities

·Remain up to date with latest technologies and best practices in line with CN's standards

·Document as-is and to-be processes, gather requirements, develop test scenarios to ensure quality, and drive change management

·Contribute to FP initiatives and projects, and help implement new processes to meet department and corporate needs

·Automate processes, improve data availability, and create workload bandwidth for the department

·Develop self-serve options and innovative solutions on FP processes

·Train colleagues on data access, offer training sessions and produce job aids for FP systems

·Maintain internal documentation and creation of standard operating procedures on processes and automations for continuity

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role may require being available outside these hours in certain circumstances. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

Requirements

Experience

I&T Systems Management and Finance

·Between 3 to 5 years of experience in I&T Systems

oExperience leading I&T systems and processes

oExperience in a technical expert role, with relational databases and modeling techniques and coding (e.g., Structured Query Language (SQL) Server)*

oExperience developing dashboards and interactive analytical tools and visualizations*

oExperience handling various types of data (e.g., unstructured, semi-structured &and structured)*

oExperience handling projects, (i.e.: scope and timeline), delivering results with an Agile approach*

oAnalytical experience relating to CN*

Education/Certification/Designation

·Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science with financial knowledge, or Finance with systems knowledge

·Bachelor's Degree in Commerce*

·Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or other professional Accounting Degree*

·Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Sciences, Software Engineering, Statistics or equivalent degree and experience*

·Master of Business Administration (MBA)*

Technical Skills/Knowledge

·Knowledge of SAP transactions, overseeing tables and hierarchies, reporting, and analyzing SAP financial data

·Ability to script using Oracle Essbase, Dodeca, MaxL, spearheading cube creation and automation, design, outline updating, reporting, overseeing licensing, and security

·Knowledge of creating, modifying, and working with packages for automation purposes, using SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT)

·Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel

·Knowledge of Batch file and VB Scripting for process automation

·Knowledge of Business Objects to interact with reports and universes

·Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Scheduling to schedule system processes

·Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting processes

·Knowledge of datasets and systems for revenue planning, internal networks, and Crew Assignment and Timekeeping System (CATS)*
