The Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87 invites applications for a Payroll Officer. The successful candidate will oversee all payroll related data, statistics, and other related reports. This position will provide advisory assistance to management and staff on a range of payroll related matters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure the operational aspects of payroll processing and associated activities, including salary/hourly disbursement, benefit remittances and reconciliations, accrued liabilities management and year-end reporting are accurate and delivered within appropriate timeframes and comply with relevant legislation.
- Coach, mentor, train and coordinate the activities of relevant staff within Payroll Services.
- Prepare complex payroll information for data input and assist with checking, quality control, and maintenance of records to ensure accuracy, service quality and data integrity.
- Assist the organization to meet its taxation, superannuation and other legislative and statutory obligations through processing and preparation of returns, related reports, forms, and other documentation as requested.
- Provide a responsive, accurate client advisory service on payroll matters, resolve difficult enquiries, and assist in identifying payroll errors and implementing corrective action.
- Provide and promote service excellence and foster effective teamwork and business relationships.
- Contribute to the application and monitoring of Canadian payroll practices, principles, and processes.
- Contribute to implementing improvement by participating in a range of payroll and service delivery reform activities.
- Prepare annual salary budget.
- Perform other related duties within the scope of the position.
Qualifications:
- Completion of the Canadian Payroll Manager (CPM) certification.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience.
- Sound numeracy skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience in payroll, and the use of a computerized payroll system (e.g. Avanti), or other relevant databases.
- Supervisory skills to effectively team build and resolve conflict.
- Proven ability to work effectively independently or as a member of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Excellent organization skills to meet stringent deadlines.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products particularly MS Excel for reporting and reconciling of payroll related GL accounts.
- Provide a Driver’s Abstract if required.
