Eastern Fence currently has an opportunity for an Accounting Specialist working towards a full-time Payroll Specialist role at our Accounting office in Moncton, New Brunswick. Responsibilities:

The Accounting Specialist – Payroll will focus primarily on the processing and maintaining of a weekly payroll that can grow to 250+ employees at peak season. However, they will work under the current Payroll Specialist as a trainee and backup, eventually taking over the role as part of a succession plan when the incumbent retires/steps back. Early on, both to allow for a richer training and familiarization with the company, the successful candidate will also be trained and asked to work in different areas of the daily accounting cycle as part of their regular duties. This will provide ample opportunity to learn and grow with the team, while working towards taking over the Payroll duties completely down the road, all while providing comprehensive support and backup capabilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing various activities relating to processing payroll, maintaining records, filing remittances, investigating payroll discrepancies, reconciliations, reporting, etc., all while staying up-to-date with Employment Standards Acts, jurisdictional differences, and collective agreements. As mentioned, other responsibilities early on relating to accounts payable, accounts receivable and banking will be assigned. On top of the hands-on work for the role, the successful candidate should possess an attitude that will mesh with a team-oriented culture and help to maintain an environment of continuous improvement and problem solving.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Completion of post-secondary program focused on Accounting or Payroll.
• 3 or more years’ payroll and accounting experience preferred.
• Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation, or ongoing work towards, considered an asset.
• Detail oriented, able to prioritize and effectively manage multiple assignments within strict departmental timelines.
• Must be organized and willing to work with exceptions as they arise, as well as standard procedures.
• Ability to handle increased workload during certain periods of the year.
• While not required to be considered, experience with Canpay Grandmaster Suite payroll software would be an asset, along with SYSPro 7/8 ERP software experience.
• Excellent written and oral communication to deal with staff members in a variety of situations.
