Sierra’s heavy civil division has the equipment, trained operators and expertise to complete a wide array of projects including subdivision servicing, building services and sitework packages, municipal water systems, wastewater treatment plans, sewer and watermain, roads, golf courses, retention ponds, erosion control, earthmoving and demolition. Responsibilities
- Assembling and connecting PVC and concrete sewer and water main pipe in sewer trenches
- Aligning pipes and checking grades during pipeline construction using pipe laser and rotatory laser
- Setting manholes and catch basins to proper grade and alignment
- Review plan and profile drawings or specifications to determine work requirements
- Signal equipment operators to indicate proper equipment positioning
- Transferring alignment and grade information from layout stakes
- Reviewing locates and daylighting existing utilities
- Confined space entry
- Benching and parging of manholes and catch basins
- Cutting pipe as necessary
- Removing old or broken piping systems
- Operate construction equipment such as jumping jack, jackhammer, quick-cut saw, etc.
- Lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs.
- Utilize hand tools such as shovel, tape measure, level, hammer, rake, etc.
- Training and coaching general and intermediate labourers
- Required to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Comply with all company health and safety guidelines
- Other duties will be assigned as required
Desired Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of experience as a Pipe Layer
- Previous experience and knowledge about the excavating industry
- Ability to read and interpret Construction Drawings and Specifications
- Small equipment operation experience is an asset
- Must be safety conscious
- Excellent team player
- Great communication skills
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions
- Must have a valid G license
- Must be punctual and personable
- Must obtain WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety training
