Reporting to the Program Manager, the Primary Staff Group Home Worker supports our mission and vision to build a supportive and caring community and to guide our learners to reach their full potential through planned and impromptu skills instruction. This position will work 8-hour shifts and be the Primary Staff to 1 client.
Wage: $26.25 - $30.00 per hour
This position has a base rate of $18.25 - $22.00 per hour, with an additional $3 wage enhancement per hour, paid by the government and $5 per hour special care rate, as reflected in the wage posted.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education Requirements: Completion of Diploma in Child and Youth Care Worker or Development Service Worker or similar education.
- Required Experience: Minimum of5 years working in a residential setting and experience working with individuals with behavioural needs or 2 years of supervisory experience in a residential setting and experience working with individuals with behavioural needs.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, Quality Assurance Measures, Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Health and Safety Act, employee/labour relations practices and legislation.
- Knowledge of Child Protection Act.
- Previous experience working with individuals with complex needs and Autism.
- Ability to communicate with Caseworkers and attend meetings.
- Able to work closely with a Behaviour Team.
- First Aid Level C.
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Must provide a medical health assessment (form provided by Blooming Acres).
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and effective oral-written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving, flexibility, creativity and mediation skills.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- 1:1 support for a complex care client in residence and out in the community, by providing behaviour management support.
- Support client to reach their full potential by building relationships, demonstrating an interest, responding to needs, negotiating focused goals and building self-esteem.
- Support and follow individual plans consistently while facilitating and implementing educational, recreational (including swimming), and vocational programs.
- Communicating and documenting any change in the status or needs of individual clients while maintaining positive and effective relationships with clients, their families, co-workers, and management.
- Participate as a member in a team environment by promoting and maintaining professional conduct, resolving conflict, acknowledging individual differences and supporting team members and residents.
- Protect self and others by maintaining a safe environment via safety inspections, wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) emergency procedures, crisis intervention techniques and Safe Management.
- Direct care of our complex clients; including feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, and bowel and bladder care (for some individuals).
- Responsible for implementing programs and making suggestions for improving programming.
- On-going housekeeping related duties which include meal preparation, laundry and light clean up.
- Complete necessary documentation in accordance with our Policies and Procedures, and the Ministry/QAM requirements and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Must be available to work all shifts including weekends, weekdays, evenings and holidays.
- Other assigned duties.
