We have two manufacturing facilities on site, manufacturing grain aeration equipment for the agricultural industry as well as petroleum storage tanks and smoothwall fertilizer and grain storage bins under the Westeel brand. As a division of AGI, we have dealers and distributors nationally and internationally to meet the needs of our customers worldwide. We currently have over 100 employees operating out of 200,000 square feet of manufacturing facility in Nobleford, Alberta.
The Opportunity
We are actively seeking a Production Manager to join our Operations team at AGI. In this role, you will be responsible for the overall management, direction and coordination of production processes. The Production Manager ensures, through delegation, the attainment of production objectives at the lowest cost, consistent with customer and quality requirements. This role will be directly responsible to oversee all production related activities with a focus on safety and quality.
The Team
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager works closely with the Production Supervisors who have a combined 35+ years of production experience. The Production Manger will indirectly oversee approximately 100 production employees and work closely with the maintenance, safety and production planning teams.
Responsibilities
The Production Manager is responsible for guiding the production process including but not limited to the following:
- Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement utilizing company policies and procedures
- Lead, plan, and execute production of manufactured steel products ensuring efficient inventory, equipment and labour resources
- Identify process improvement initiatives by utilizing new processes and technology by utilizing Lean principles
- Develop, implement and maintain Lean manufacturing strategies to ensure efficient, high quality results
- Constantly strive to reduce costs via Lean / cost reduction / process improvement activities while maintaining quality
- Communicate and provide leadership to supervisory team to ensure achievement of production objectives
- Coordinate with maintenance to ensure facilities and equipment are maintained, downtime is minimized and effective preventive maintenance programs are in place
- Manage team and succession planning through training, coaching, development, and feedback
- Work cooperatively with safety, Lean, engineering, sales, accounting, and other support function departments
- Maintain the ISO 9001 program to ensure compliance
- Prepare production reporting information
- Maintain a positive work culture by motivating employees and encouraging open communication
- Promote AGI values: safety, transparency, collaboration, simplicity, innovation, urgency, curiosity and integrity
- Support corporate policy and change in a positive way
- Work with HR and the Plant Manager on labour needs regarding recruitment, cross training, succession planning, performance management, promotions, job transfers and discipline in order to meet plant objectives
- Take ownership of employee engagement and motivation to minimize employee turnover
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school)
- 2-5 years related manufacturing management experience
- Experience resolving daily production & quality issues
- Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook Email/Calendar, ERP Systems, Payroll system, Safety Management System
- Excellent communication skills and leadership ability
- A proven track record of ability to execute projects and extract excellent results
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing process and principles
- Strong sense of discretion and ability to coach and manage people
- Familiarity with agriculture industry and steel manufacturing is an asset
