Title:Production Worker
Reports to: Mill Foreman
Location: 304 Station Street, Smithville, ON
Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm

General Responsibilities:
- Prepared to start the work shift on time, every day.
- Contributes to a positive team environment within the Plant and throughout the company.
- Able to follow instructions in a fast-paced environment.
- Effectively uses downtime. This includes training on other jobs in the shop.
- Follows Turkstra Branch Standards, in particular, sustains shop cleanliness and required maintenance.
Machine Operation:
- Properly handles all material while checking for quality and defects.
- Ensures product is manufactured to precise specifications.
- Reads and interprets relevant documentation for production.
- Carries out proper safety and cleaning protocol on production lines, machinery, and equipment.
- Completes machinery and equipment inspections daily.
- Completes all daily maintenance as required (saws, lift truck).
Lumber Sorter:
- Straps lifts for transport to rip saw.
- Keeps the shop clean / general housekeeping.
Rip Saw Operator:
- Performs pre-rip routine (rip sheet, blade setup, staples, banding).
- Does first piece routine (accuracy check, labelling).
- Follows protocol on ripping lumber (minimize waste, quality).
- Follows rip sheet instructions (quantities, sizes, paperwork).
- Complete post-rip procedures (paperwork, tags, labelling).
- Prepares lifts for transport (banding, labelling).
Moulder Operator:
- Perform all pre-machining tasks (staples, tags, production needs).
- Feed material as per instructions (crook, bow, defects).
- Retrieves lumber as required for production run.
- Carefully inspects trim for defects (knots, cracks, splits, holes).
- Carefully follows outfeed tasks (taping, recording, stacking).
Forklift Operation:
- Willing to take forklift operator course and obtain forklift operator certification. - Level 2
- Completes circle checks and inspections. - Level 2
- Effectively moves and organizes work-in-progress (WIP) material based on production schedule. - Level 2
Moulder Technician:
- Completes daily maintenance (grinders, moulders). - Level 5
- Prepares tooling as required (sharpen, measure). - Level 5
- Follows routine in setting up moulder. - Level 5
- Runs test piece to ensure accuracy (match to sample). - Level 5
- Periodically check quality with Receiver (look for lines, size). - Level 5
- Finds creative solutions to escalated issues. - Level 6
- Suggests changes to process to improve speed or quality. - Level 6
- Maintains equal pressure and consistency with grinding efficiently to keep up with requirements. - Level 6
- Changes bearings when required. - Level 6
Requirements:
- Interest in the construction industry
- Ability to use construction related tools
- Minimum lift requirements of 66 lbs
- Construction and/or forklift experience an asset
