Job description

Child Witness to Violence Program Coordinator

Hestia House is a 24-bed emergency transition home for women and their children fleeing domestic and intimate partner violence. For the past 42 years, we have been supporting women in the Saint John and surrounding areas, helping over a thousand families in their path to safety and empowerment.

We are currently hiring full-time for a compassionate and experienced Child and Youth Coordinator to work directly with children, youth, and caregivers who receive services through Hestia House.

As a Child Witness to Violence Coordinator, your primary responsibilities will be to lead the child and youth programming at Hestia House. Focusing on the emotional regulation and behavioural support of our clients as well as, creating and maintaining community partnerships.

Requirements

  • Minimum Post Secondary Diploma in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
  • Degree in Social Work, Child Development or Child and Youth Care will also be considered an asset.
  • Two years' experience working with children, preferably in the vulnerable sector.
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends.

The Child Witness to Violence Program Coordinator requires a foundational knowledge of the following:

  • Family and Intimate Partner Violence.
  • Trauma and the impact on child development.
  • Self- Regulation Tools i.e., Zones of Regulation.
  • Community resources, including leisure, education, and support services for Children.
  • Legal moral and responsibilities to report to Child Protective Services

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial meetings with children and caregivers to develop a needs assessment and outcomes.
  • and schedule follow-up meetings with objectives.

Apply an outcomes-based case management approach to ensure the needs of each child are met.

  • Plan and implement daily activities and age-appropriate programming on-site and in the community in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Lead with positive interactions and structured activities that support social skills and emotional well-being in a trauma-informed manner.
  • Support children with their school learning activities.
  • Assist in the development of healthy relationships and boundaries with children and their caregiver.
  • Aide in the practice of self-regulation skills, coping strategies, and communication.
  • Provide childcare when the caregiver attends programming, appointments, or requires self-care.
  • Ensure that all child programming areas meet the health and safety regulations as mandated by the Department of Health.
  • Maintain strong, outcomes-based documentation and monthly statistics on children within the program.
  • Meet regularly with caregivers regularly to provide parental support as required.
  • Work as a critical member of the Hestia House team, adhering to all acts and policies and contributing to the overall mandate of the organization.

Certifications

Successful candidates must have, or be willing to obtain the following:

  • First Aid-CPR
  • Criminal Record Background Check
  • Social Development Vulnerable Sector Check.
